Chrony Test

I just did an interesting test.

Test conditions:
42*
Target 25 yards out
Front chrony eye 12" from muzzle.





I fired 10 shots about 3" above the eye from a shooting bag.



My results were:

LO 710.2
HI 710.2
AVG 706.5
ES 8.53
SD 2.23

Then I put the rifle on a stepping stone and it shot maybe 2" higher for 10 shots.



And while the results were similar, there is about 10 FPS AVG.

HI 724.2
AVG 715.9
ES 14.27
SD 4.58

No this test was not for checking out the gun, but to show consistency on how just a few inches can change your results, for better or worse. We also know that 2 chronys will read slightly different and this shows that if consistency is not maintained that even the same chrony will read differently. Now because of this I know more testing needs to be done. Maybe adding another stepping stone or two and seeing the difference from there as well.

I would like to see other people do the same test and see if there is a difference as well.

Like you, I've got the Chrony brand.  I have not tested for results varying depending upon the height of travel above the "eye".

I have  found height above the "eye" can determine whether you get any reading at all under different lighting conditions.

With further research I need to throw out most of my readings.

To safeguard the instrument (and to obtain the best results), the projectile must pass between 6 and 4 inches.

And, the angle shot must be level.
