Good News for me. I don't have to buy a compressor.

About five years ago, I was delving into the idea of purchasing my first PCP and a CF tank. Since I live on the tropical island of Guam, I called a few of my local dive shops to inquire if their compressors can fill to 4500 PSI. One of them said they could only fill to 3500 PSI and the other only 3000 PSI. I informed them that the tank would only be used for airguns although I don't think they had a clue what I was talking about. I shelved the idea of purchasing a tank and went ahead and bought my first PCP rifle to include a new Hill MK4 Hand Pump. I started looking at purchasing a compressor although if it was to be shipped to Guam, the total shipping weight would have to be less than 70 pounds and shipped via USPS or I could also use a freight forwarder and pay over $1000 in shipping cost. Ummm, no.
I started looking at the Shoebox and Altaros because they weighed less although the idea of purchasing a separate compressor unit, dryer system and maintenance turned me off. About a few weeks ago, I paid a visit to three of my local dive shops in my area and spoke with the technicians. They all informed me that they could fill to 4500 PSI and that they fill a lot of CF tanks for the paintballers. I asked if I needed to be a certified diver to have a tank filled which they informed me that I did not have to be certified and that they would just put a sticker on the tank. Cool. All three dive shops are less than a 10 minute drive from where I live. The closest one is about a 5 minute drive but charges $5.00 for a fill. The other two dive shops charge $3.00 and $3.50. All three dive shops have a fixed price rate whether or not I get a tank filled from 0-4500 PSI or 3000-4500 PSI. Time to save for a tank and I've been looking at purchasing a Great White tank from Joe B. I'll be looking forward to enjoy shooting again.

Good things worked out. I have a tiger shark and I highly recommend Joe's tanks. The slow flow valves he puts in them makes filling so much easier and more safe than the high flow style. Good luck and happy shooting.

That's one of the reasons I'm going with Joe's tanks. I have Brocock Contour S6 Elite in .22 and the air cylinder is dinky on that rifle. Although it's an easy airgun to pump, I'm tired of pumping. Having to pump my airguns really holds me back from enjoying this hobby. Especially when target shooting. After pumping, I have to control my breathing and heart beat and that's just no fun.

I'm happy with the valves on my SCBA tanks, they're very controllable in my opinion!

Wayne, I agree that regular valves are controllable. I filled from scuba for a couple years and never over filled a gun. Now that I have one of Joe's valves and tank I am certain I won't overfill unless I'm totally spacing off while filling. I'm glad I have one of Joe's and do highly recommend to anyone that's in the market. Regular valves are controllable yes, but Joe's valves are made for filling air guns not breathing air so the flow is just slower and steadier. Easier to fill at a rate that is recommended to fill at. Just my opinion from filling from both styles of valves.
