new guy need some help with RWS Diana 48

Ok I had a family member bust up my grandfathers rifle.  Long story short he bent/snapped the 
arm on the side cocking lever. Then he just put it back in the gun safe w/o telling anyone!

So I called rws repair center and they said $50.00 to just look at the rifle?! I am not original owner and I have to pay to just have them look at the rifle.  Then the guy says that it take few weeks to month. I asked if there was any place else and he reluctantly said I could buy the parts and do the work myself. This is what I did. Can any one help me get this gun back up and running?

I believe I have seen replacement parts on pyramydair, including the sidelever itself.
But that's only useful if you feel up to doing the repair. Otherwise you'll probably be better off sending it to a member of this forum who does repairs.

It shouldn't be too difficult to fix your rifle.  Let's try to identify what is broken.  Here is a parts diagram:

I assume it's the rod that connects the sidelever to the compression tube? These are broken fairly commonly if they get out of adjustment or are roughed around.

Tip: If this is whats broken, don't buy the "pull rod cover" as it's just a piece of plastic tubing. Use heat shrink instead.

You may have to pull the gun apart to get the allen bolt out of the compression chamber. These can be rather tight and hard to get at with the gun together. Get yourself a breech seal to replace while you are in there. It's a lot easier with it all apart.

Also, if it has a factory mainspring, it's either broken or on it's way to being broken. May want to source an aftermarket one to replace it with.

Be sure to adjust the pull rod to JUST BARELY lock the lever closed at first or you will break it again.

The cocking lever or rod is available from Umarex (the warranty place), possibly Air Venturi (if in stock), or Chambers Airgun Spares in the UK.  You need to determine which part(s) you need.

The repair, if you wish to call it such, involves removing circlips from retaining pins, removing the pins, and swapping out the cocking arm or rod.

You may find a member nearby to do the job for you but it's pretty straightforward.  When removing pins and circlips watch for little washers in the linkage.  They are necessary for proper operation.

If you don't feel up to the task and can't locate a member nearby contact John in PA.  He's a tuner who REALLY knows Dianas.

Koman, these guys will definitely be able to help you out. They know their stuff. I usually take all their advice. Be sure to tune lube and improve what you can while you've got the rifle torn down. You will be happy that you did and will have a great shooter for years to come. And don't let that family member use it anymore. Get him something in CO2.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Ok I called the RWS repair center. The second time the CS rep was great. I found out that I busted the screw on the rod is broke. I can see three to four twists on the end the near the back of the rifle( opposite of barre)l. I ordered the part from the repair center it cost 18.76 with shipping. He said that he was sending a set of instructions and diagram.

I will attempt to fix myself. But truth be told I am not a mechanic or gunsmith. Hence one main reason I went into law enforcement.....

Ken: When this is all resolved and the gun is fixed then locate the "caveman" relative that did this and did not own-up to what was done. Don' t get him a c02 and such..Get him a club...And Use it on him.
