Shoebox Air Line Question

Hi All,

I recently bought a Shoebox Max compressor with upgrades.  It has the standard, not coiled, air lines.  The Freedom 8 had the "4 ft of air tube coils for superior heat dissipation".  The pictures I've seen of the Freedom 10 do not have the coiled airlines but have airlines like my Max.  Does anyone know why there went back to the uncoiled air lines?  I know the Freedom 10 is not the same as the 8 because of a faster motor and there was something else I don't remember.  So maybe the coils weren't necessary in that setup?

If the coiled lines were available and compatible with my Max, does anyone know if it would be worth installing them?  I'm just trying to keep the moisture out and help my 4 horsepower 25 gallon compressor.

You'd be better served to just remove the cover and have a small fan blowing on all the internals.   You may want to add a desiccant filter between compressor and SB, too. 

The SB max only needs a small pancake compressor to run. Your 4HP/29gal is major overkill and should hardly run to supply air to the SB.  With the size compressor, the new audrious unit is worth looking at.

Thank you for your response.  I had posted my compressor specs on Dairyboy's Altaros thread and was given the impression that my compressor would run constantly to operate the Altaros.  If the compressor was running constantly it would create a lot more moisture that I would then need to remove.  So I didn't have the optimal setup.

The Shoebox popped up in the member classifieds and I jumped on it.  I thought it was a good deal with all it's upgrades and extras.

For some reason, thought the minimum requirements was 2HP/15gal.  If what you have is the minimum, then not going to appeal to many.  ie most homeowners won't have anything that big.

I'm a SB max owner, as well, so not planning any near-term upgrade in compressor.

You need a min. of 5 cfm per minute at at least 90-125 psi for the Altaros to do a  good job. It is NOT for the portable little oil less compressors. They simply do not supply enough air. (That and they are noisy as heck!) Grrrr!!!

That should be in the range for most 4HP/29gal compressors. 

I suspect that most home owners, if they have a compressor, it is of the smaller, oil-less units.  If you are a garage guy with pneumatic tools, then you probably have something big enough for altaros.  Otherwise it is probably a $400+ adder to get one.


PS: I finally wired in my adjustable pressure switch on the SB Max last night.  And defeated the clacker!  That drove me nuts filling my new to me 60 minute tank.  I could put up with it on the guppy.

 And this is exactly  what is wrong with me today!   I'm nuts I tell ya!

My Shoebox also has the electronic adjustable pressure switch.  I will be running it in a detached garage so noise wouldn't have been an issue.  But I am glad I have the better switch so that it will cut off more consistently.
