stuck pelles removal?
«

A friend of mine ( maybe not in this case) asked me if I could help with his son's problem. Gun is a Crosman Phantom in .177 cal and it has at least half a dozen pellets stuck in the middle of the barrel. I have tried the wooden dowel rod and tap method with no luck does anyone have any ideas?

You would have to be careful not to harm the bore but you can melt them out with a torch.

I would just hit to dowel harder.I would hit them toward the end of the muzzle. If the wood is not strong enough use an aluminum cleaning rod.

Wow, trying to make a repeater out of it?
You might try using an air compressor. With safety goggles of course and no one standing around close. I've gotten one stuck in a barrel before and stcck the nozzle from my compressor in the end and blew the stuck pellet out. MIGHT work but if you have used a wooden dowel, those puppies stuck good.
Keep up informed.
Happy Shooting!!!!

Sounds like the are packed in tight Gary. Maybe place some Kano Kyoil in the barrel an let it sit overnight then give it the mallet, dowel rod whack.

Small drill bit and very slowly drill them out. If you go to fast the lead will melt then cool when it gets away from the bit and could break the bit. Or you could try a soldering iron to melt the lead.

Thoughts on drilling. You have to sure the bit is perfectly centered in the barrel. If it drifts to the side, you will score the rifling. Seen this happen to some trying to drill through a stuck ball in a muzzle loader.
I would go with the penetrating oil. Maybe apply from the breech and let stand on the barrel overnight with a foil catch pan. Then swab out the bore with some patches and try to tap them out through the breech using the dowel rod. If you go with the aluminum rod, the problem there is that most are jointed and, that being the weakest point, you might deflect the joint into the rifling. Big question is how did he get the first pellet stuck? Was he trying to shoot several at once? Is the spring broken so that the gun has little power? Be careful with the barrel cracked open. Might want to make up a jig to hold the gun and prevent any kind of barrel slamming shut, etc.
First and foremost, get a waiver for damages. Even from a friend, something going amiss can strain the relationship. (Have HIM do the work.) Good luck!

Thanks for all the ideas and I have the barrel cleared. Used a combo of the ideas, soaking with penetrating oil, drilling, heat and tapping. I got about 2 1/4" lead slug from the barrel. I have not shot it yet but will.

that really sounds like someone is doing something completely unsafe... or that rifle isn't safe to shoot if its getting pellets stuck.....

Sounds like he wanted to see how much it could shoot at once. Not good. I'll admit I've done it, but only with 2 pellets and they didn't get stuck

Good to hear it all came out. Man 2 1/4 in of lead is a few pellets. Knuckle head kids. Lol wonder what part of the gun gave out when he pulled the trigger.

the breech and piston seals probably didn't seal... or the mainspring took a massive beating.
