I love the B19 platform

It's the roller bearing mod. The bearing is removed from the bike chain. You can look up the mod on YouTube. Very easy to do.

I had such good luck with my B18 (Crosman Genesis NP) and the GRT-III mod, I picked up a B19 in the form of a used Quest 1000X.
The original owner was a young man who didn't take good care of it. I picked it up cheap as a gun to learn tuning on, but after good cleaning of surface rust, lubing, and tightening of the screws , she's a good shooter!
So far it seems to like the 10.5gr CPUM's better than the CPHP's.  While out to 20yds max it does good with Meisterkugeln 8.2s  .... I just got a tin of RWS Superdomes in 8.3 so let's see what happens there.
 Currently it isn't wearing a scope, just using it's fiber optic "iron" sights.
 Before I got the GRTIII for the Genesis I experimented with a plastic bushing instead of the washer trick minus the Lawyer spring. I am going to try that piece in the Quest next time it comes apart. One of these days I need to get back to the "Big City" and hit up the old Hobby Shop for a bearing. Afraid if I set foot in there the R/C Boat bug will bite me again. NOW THERE'S A RABBIT HOLE... Maybe Amazon is the answer.

The Crosman Vantage NP, which is supposed to be a B19 clone, was my first "real" springer (I had only pumpers before). I bought it about 2 years ago. A bit rough and noisy at first. After a tin of pellets or two, got  easier to shoot but still a terrible trigger and a nonsense rear sight, you know, that double green traffic light  . Sooo... I first replaced that rear sight with an old full steel and sturdy Baikal one, set on the 11mm dovetail rail. Then I did the ball bearing trick with the trigger. Added something in front of the barrel I won't talk about in this forum I love...
So then, I won't say I'm "in love with the B19 platform" but I got to admit that it's the first time I really enjoy shooting a springer.
Concerning the ball bearing trigger mod : yes, it's a real improvement, but it makes you just realize  what's the "balk firing" hazard, while the Crosman 2100 trigger, for example, just doesn't stick when you release it before shooting.

Ah, and "Do your b19's shoot the first cold shot the same place as the rest? " Yep, but sometimes, the last one, as warmed as the rifle can be, unfortunately makes me forget that particularity...

A year ago I bought an F4 at Walmart and could never get it to shoot well. Did the trigger mod but the real culprit was the washer
the barrel pivots on. Tried to fix it but made things worse so basically consigned the gun to  a corner of my cellar.

About three months ago I decided to try airguns again and bought a Vantage NP 22 from PA. My thinking was that Crosman would be out of business if all their guns were as bad as the F4 I had so for $80 I would take a chance. Glad I did-the gun is a tack driver-shoots H&N FTT's into 1/4 inch groups at 18 yds consistently- I keep waiting for the gun to go bad but it doesn't seem to be happening-

The F4 had a kick like a deer rifle-the Vantage just a little tap. I don't know whether I got lucky and got a good one that is the exception or the F4 was the exception .

Looking to get a .177 now and was thinking of going German but the Vantage shoots so well why should I spend the extra money.
I'll get another Vantage. If it shoots well it stays -if it's a dud -back to Pyramid Air for a refund.

Paul, my F4 I got from Walmart shoots really accurate. It is the luck of the draw when you by these guns, so far with a few tweeks the ones I have perform well as far as shot placement go. Look on the forum for fixes to the barrel washers there are a lot of them on here. It may just be a need to tighten the bolt down with lock tight to cure the side to side play in the barrel. (Just a tip, hope it helps).

Didn't post with the intent of knocking the F4 as most nitro pistons are pretty much the same gun with different stocks and appreciate your insights.

With my limited mechanical skills the only fix I can do is the trigger mod . Most of them are probably pretty good but occasionally a dud slips thru. Now that I know how a decent one shoots I'll just make sure I buy from a source that won't give me problems with a return if the gun has issues.

 Tried to return the F4 but it was purchased in another state and local Walmart told me it had to be returned in the state where purchased which at that time would have been more aggravation than it was worth. Plus I had lost the receipt which didn't help matters.  Live and learn.
