I wasn't sure where to post this question, but it's for you guys that shoot the 50 yard benchrest (or even 30). What scope magnification do you guys typically shoot at?
I'm hoping to shoot in the 50 or 30yard once I get a gun (probably a Disco), but it probably won't be until it warms up next spring. Got a good deal on a scope the other day and it's a 4-12 x 40 Vortex Diamondback. Is that gonna be enough magnification?

IMO 12X is nowhere near enough magnification for benchrest, even for 25M. I have a 24X that I used at 25M, but after switching to 36X this made it much easier to properly estimate your hold-off while looking at flags, etc.
Weaver and Sightron both make good fixed magnification 36X scopes. You see lots of them at matches.

I am using 10 or 12x when I shoot the 50. 12x is maxed out on my scope. Like Rolling Thunder says probably be better to have more magnification at 50 but scope weight goes up it seems above 12 power.

+2 on what Rolling Thunder said. I use a 3-12 for plinking out to 65yds but for the 30 and up matches I use a 8-32.

I'm using a 4-16X for the 50yd on my .25 and a 3-9X on my .22 for the 30yd match. I normally use the .25 for the 30yd match but I'm low on .25 pellets so I've been using my .22 for it. I want to replace my CP 4-16 on my .25 with a 24X when I can afford it.
