Stiff action

I was out shooting the disco and when I go to load another pellet, the action is very stiff practically stuck and when it will cock back it feels like you're rubbing metal on metal.

My Discovery did that one while I was hunting.  Eventually it eased up and returned to normal.  I suspect it was a particle of sand/dirt in the action that was eliminated.

Thought that could have been a problem but I blowed it out with a air compressor and still the same. It feels more like to me that it is the spring, but it's at the same spot as before and then it was real smooth. So I don't know what's made it start.

Thought you were starting a thread about the BT65 by Hatsan.  Mine feels like 50 grit sandpaper when trying to cock the action.  I'm going to start doing mods on it soon so maybe I can smooth it out some.

Try checking the breech screws. One might be loose causing binding. I've had that happen on 22xx guns which have basically the same action.

After inspection, I've came to the result that it is the bolt. Someone had bent the bolt (previous owner) the only reason that it wasn't rough when I first got it was I'm guessing that he had it in the perfect position to where it wouldn't rub the sides of the breech when cocking. I bent the bolt back out and am now trying to sand it down to where it won't touch, hopefully it will work.

Ok maybe I was wrong, I got the bolt to where I'm positive that it's not touching the breech and it still feels stuck. So I disassembled the action, cleaned everything, not that it needed it but just in case. The only spot that I saw rub marks was on the air tube where the hammer slides back and forth but by just moving the hammer in the tube by itself it's as smooth as can be so what could be the problem here?!?!

Might look to two other parts.

The striker cocks by way of the bolt contacting a pin in the striker.  Pin can be bent or loose enough that it wants to tip a bit and try to wedge itself to the top of the air tube rather than just pull the striker back smoothly. One of those things that happens with some pins, but more common when set up with heavy striker spring tension.

Trigger can become mal-adjusted, not letting the sear drop fully out of the way of the striker. Can always test this one by loosening the screws that hold the trigger unit on by 1/2 turn each and seeing if it cocks smoothly (WARNING: Sear is likely to NOT catch the striker, so you can't shoot it this way). If it's had a home-trigger job, may want to look into readjusting the trigger and lock-tite on the screws.

I've got the trigger off of it now, is the bolt supposed to be bent or not stock?

Ok so maybe the bolt is one if not the only issue, does anyone know of a way to narrow it down? The breech screws are tight and I don't have the trigger assembly on so I can eliminate that as an issue. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Can you roll the bolt handle on a flat surface to see if there are any gaps to indicate if it is straight or indeed bent.  I'm not familiar with the bolt or bolt handle.  Maybe you could use a metal straight edge to align along the side of it if not possible to roll on a flat surface.

I've got what I guess you could call the shaft of the bolt straight but you can clearly see when looking at it that the part where the threads begin to where they end is bent so I'd probably be better off just getting a new bolt handle.

Like I said, I have no idea what this "bolt" looks like.  It sounds like the end of it is threaded and the handle is bolted onto that section which is bent.  If you had a nut with similar threads, you could thread that on, grip that section in a vise and try to straighten the threads.  Again, I'm trying to visualize the problem you are describing, and have no idea what I'm talking about....

OK..I got a little lost too.

Bolt and bolt handle. Both should be stright.  As you're talking about the threaded part, assume it's the bolt handle that's not staight and it's likely bent at the threaded part.

So If I'm right above, then the bolt handle will wobble as it's screwed into the bolt.
 
Trail/test:

Loosen the rear breech screw (the one on tap near the rear end of the breech).

The cocking pin can be binding (could be bent), if loosening the rear breech screw makes it cock smoother, then that's the likely cause.

Another trial/test:

Leave the bolt handle off and try to cock the rifle with a rod in the threaded hole for the bolt handle.  Want something close enough in diameter not to be all wobbly, but round and smooth...the smooth shank of a drill bit works so long as you wrap the cutting end in a rag before you grab it.

If it cocks smoothly with the straight rod acting as a bolt handle, then replace the bolt handle.

(And wonder a bit at how it got bent in the first place.)





Take the rear end cap off and pluck out the striker spring. If the spring is kinking/boinding, broken, or otherwise mangled, it can bind up the bolt.  If there has been a spring guide added, or a "power adjuster" has even more likelyhood of something getting misaligned/hangling up.

So at this point, have NO trigger unit on the rifle, NO end cap on the rear of the tube, and NO spring inside the striker.   


If it still won't cock, are going to have to take it farther apart.

What I mean when I say "bolt" is the bolt handle. It is bent at the threads is why I'm thinking it is hard to cock. (Possibly rubbing the breech) I'll try what you said ribbonstone and go from there.

The gun will cock really smooth as it should without the end cap on meaning no spring so no pressure on the striker. I haven't tried removing the bolt handle and trying to cock it with something else. I'll try that once I get home.

I have a power adjuster on the rifle but it cocked fine before I took it apart to fix the leak (it had the power adjuster then also). The bolt handle was bent by the previous owner I'm assuming since it was that way when I got it. The only thing I can come up with as to why it was smooth before was the previous owner had the bolt handle in the perfect position to where it wouldn't touch the breech, therefore cocking smoothly.
