I'm a week or so off picking up my new Evanix Blizzard and came across this article from the local distributor. I've been searching the net and reading up on tuning and thought its was worth sharing

Also for those who like the Blizzard there are details about the Australian version which comes from Evanix with a carbon shroud and has the same output as the AR6 I'm led to believe. Looking forward to getting my hands on it next week.

Hi Geoff,
I think the CF shroud is to make the barrel more ridged not quite the sound. Over in WA the report reduction would precluded us from being able to get the gun licensed so it isn't really a factor for consideration. In actual fact the CF shroud is a better option for licensing purposes in WA from what I understand - although talking to WA firearms licensing I'm not even sure if they know understand there own policies on this. That said I didn't realise the CF shroud was used for report reduction, as from what I've read I thought the CF had more to do with strength and denting reduction over the aluminium shroud.

Regarding the barrels are you sure they aren't made by Evanix? According to Ausarms "the barrels are still made by Evanix but we completely re-designed these. New barrels are not made to simply accept the carbon shroud but rather our shrouds were designed around new barrels. We changed the specs of original barrels to make these air rifles more efficient and use less air per ft-lbs produced. The shrouds were then designed to add rigidity to these barrels and improve the overall accuracy". I can only go by what they say and unless Evanix dispute this I'm not really sure how I'd determine differently. Even if it were true I'm not sure whether it makes any difference to me as its my first air rifle and I wouldn't know any different.

Can you explain the stock thing? I've no idea how the type of wood used for the stock is an issue with the gun. I'm new to air rifles so I'm not in any particular camp so if its a pud pulling thing then its probably not going to gets me to shell out $290.

I did have a look at Hermanns but their website didn't have Evanix as an option at the time (January) and even now the website says there are no products in the Evanix category. HiPower Airguns don't have a website or even contact details up, which precludes getting information at the present.

I have bought the rifle, but I can see from your post that the there is some obvious industry tribalism that I'm not aware of particulars of. Oleg at Ausarms does appear knowledgeable in the airgun space so I'm happy to given him the benefit of the doubt at this stage.

Thanks for the information in your post and sorry about the tribalism thing it wasn't meant to be anything more than working out if your comments were Ford vs Holden.

I hear you on customer service, I know they are shocking when it comes to this as it took the dealer I bought the rifle from 4 weeks to get a response from them to get it ordered. I went to Beaton Firearms in Perth in early January and ended up buying the rifle 17th January and it didn't arrive in the store till 14th Feb. So basically 6 weeks from starting the process till I could actually apply for the WA license which still hasn't some through yet.

So just getting back to the CF shroud is it actually weaker than the aluminium shroud and that is the reason for the split the other newbie you mentioned experienced?

Your comments on the stock make sense now - I'll keep that in mind if a replacement is required.

The new shrouds play no part in sound moderation anymore.  More protection and looks; have you ever seen an MRod or a Blizzard shroudless?  Looks like Quasimoto on horseback rather than Lady Godiva
 
I'm about to install a regulator into the Blizz.  Lawsie has just installed one into his Rainstorm.

I heard it is possible to reduce Sound on the. CF shroud, not sure how.  But would be interested in understanding it.

Why a regulator? Isn't the period of valve opening effectively a regulator?

You can pretty much do all the same things for a smaller caliber guns, just size things to match the caliber. 75-80% of caliber port size is recommended.
