30 Cal Texan, Has Anyone Had One To Test ?

Would love to know how they shoot with JSB 50gr pellets ? I would imagine the BC of those pellets is around .0500+, as the 44 gr 30 cal has a BC of about .042 as I remember. The Texan can push those 50 grainers out easily in the 950 fps area I bet, which would give me about 100 fpe at the muzzle and over 60 fpe at 90 yds ... a true Coyote smasher !

The only thing is I would want a barrel shroud, and the one that R&L makes for the Texan is not to my liking ... I love their barrel shroud for the Condor as I have two of them and have another used Condor 25 cal coming with a R&L shroud installed ... they work great and look very, very clean. I plan on talking to them as I only want another 4 to 6 inches sticking out, not like the one in their picture with the girl holing the shrouded Texan. The Talon Tunes shroud does not have the looks I want either.  I'm not looking for dead quiet, just the loud "Bang" taken out so it does not sound like a powder burner going off when you shoot it.

We will see, waiting for some guys that have a 30 cal to get some results !

It will be a .308. Pellets are for a .300 bore and don't do to good because they are loose.

Who knows what AF will end up with. They usually take the cheapest route though.

LOL, LOL.. Yes .. There guns are of the up most of simplicity which is fine, but their tolerances and quality should be improved a bit .... (I'm trying to be nice).

with the Texan being a single shot wouldn't a pointed cast bullet be a lot better if possible then the birdie shaped pellet?

They say it will be much higher FPE than that. Hopefully it comes close to the 300 FPE stated. There are group buys for .308 Bob's boat tails that should do well in this gun. There are threads here for group buys and others at NOE molds.

I'm chomping at the bit to see how the .358 performs. They initially said it would push 400 FPE, now say 350 and Bob from these boards thinks 300 is more the number. Already picked up a heavy mold for it...300 will work well but will be very happy with 325 FPE.

Geesh, looking at PA website the in stock date is 6/28. I can't figure if they are pushing back the launch date or selling out of small trickling in of guns. Was 5/31 then 6/14 now 6/28. Are there 20 guns out in circulation now or have they not even launched yet? No idea.

On my condor, the RL shroud attached inside the frame to the barrel bushing vs the Texan hadsa nut/bushing the attached to the end of the frame. So the Texan shroud is a slightly larger diameter than frame.

Launch date looks to be pushed back to August now. Won't be any info on performance for awhile.

It's because they put together the guns for the shot show and now they can't get the numbers they were claiming.  There is way more to it then just changing the barrel. The numbers they were claiming were on the high side for 3000 psi.

I'd be willing to live with a .357 Condor single shot that could accurately spit a 358156 boolit downrange at 950-970 fps. With a HP in that mold, few things that you connect with will go very far... The '156 is a gas-checked, Keith sytle mold, so the chances of the sprue cut-off will wreck much are small. An accurate 300 FPE is nothing to sneeze at...heh-heh-heh.

I like the way you think. Currently have Thompson's design 358156 HP and tad heavier 358439 (Keith 429 with hollow point). Fond of the gas check on 156 and it has thicker walls/ thinner pin than Keith's 439. Waiting on the gun and we shall see how they do in different alloy. If the expansion can be dialed in via alloy used one of those will be used this white tail season. 300 FPE is certainly enough to get the job done if Air Force can get the guns out in time for the season that is.

Yet to weigh the 439 but 156 HP drops around 150 grain in 40:1 alloy. The 358439 will probably drop tad under 160 grain. Guessing that pin will require 20:1 or more tin to not fragment. Anxious for the guns release- will be a lot of fun playing around with it to find the right slug pre season.
