regulator help / instruction

Ok folks, i've done alot of searching and watched alot of videos on how regultors work but i still can't find the answer to my question.

I'm building a larger and stronger 4500psi reservoir, and want to turn my regulator up, but after i turn it past about 2000psi it quits working and just lets full pressure go through.

My question is Why? I think i know but please tell me if i'm right. I think the plunger inside is running out of travel and is no longer touching the adjuster.

If that is correct, how do i fix it? more spring? longer piston? less spring? if more spring, can i just use a spacer?

I want to get to about 2600 - 2800 psi regulated.

Please teach this old dog a new trick.

Yup ... spring stack either coil or bevel washers is maxed out.

Correctly calibrated regulators have a pressure range determined by the spring force exerted against the air pressure force within the LP plenum side.

If a bevel stack, configuration needs to change ... thicker ones or doubled up ones would need to be done.
Just adding more won't do a thing because they too will just flatten out from being over loaded.

Not in your region of extreme regulated pressure, but if this is any help... I took my Ninja regulator's setpoint from about 650psi to 950psi by rearranging the 11 belleville washers and adding a couple of shims. Shimming didn't really help a lot as it turned out, it's really the different orders of spring washers increasing setpoint more. Wanted it closer to 1200psi output, so I added a couple more of those instead and played with different arrangements until arriving at something between 1150 and 1200psi output, with this stack of 13 in the same regulator which came to me supplied new with 11 plus two shims:

They seem to stiffen when stacked in the same orientation. So I'd expect a rather significant increase in resistance if you were to do something like this:

Actually PAIRS of doubles ... (())(())(()) and so on.
A continual stack of same orientation beyond 2-3 of the same in sequence WILL NOT work well.
