Hand pump lubrication

Hi All,

I know this question has been asked a million times and the preferred lubricant is silicone.  But since silicone is not a great lubricant I'd like to use Krytox.  My question is: is oil or grease preferred?

I'd like to inspect, clean and re assemble my Xisico and Barska pumps.  I did see some brown liquid in the new Barska pump so I want to see what that was and halt it if it was corrosion or return it if there is serious damage.

I have a brand new tub of Ultimox.  If oil is better can I use Krytox GPL 106?  I will be ordering Krytox oil for other uses so I just want make sure the 106 is the recommended one.  Also Ultimox has corrosion inhibitors.  Do any of the oils have corrosion inhibitors?

I can get 106 and 105.  106 has a flash point of 500 degrees and 105 is 400 degrees.  107 has a flash point of 550 degrees but is much thicker and I can't find it to purchase.

What do you guys recommend?

Who told you Silicone is not a great lubricant? Due to it's very low coefficient of friction it is an excellent lubricant for rubber.

If you must use something else I would say the oil due to the decreased viscosity.

Silicon may not make a Good metal on metal lubricant...  It's makes a fantastic seal lube....  Been using heavier silicon shock oil on my Benji pump for 4 years and have not rebuilt it yet...

Sorry,  I am mistaken then. 

I "thought" silicone was preferred for assembly but not for repeated cycling.  Or am I retrieving what I've read jumbled up lol?

Perhaps since its generally advised to not use any lubricant that could cause dieseling, the food grade divers silicone is a good, and available, non combusting lubricant.
just in the event the hose and everything got the lubricant.

I use the divers grease, the ring you se at the bottom of the pump tube, when it turns from grayish looking to a brown rusty color it is time to rebuild your pump, hopefully you rebuild before then.

Krytox GPL226 has corrosion inhibitors.  That's what I plan to relube my Barska with when it finally gets here.
