Golden Rod Long-Range Pellets .177

Has anyone used the Skenco Golden Rod Long-Range Pellets in .177? I am looking for an accurate, longer range pellet for my Ignite Black Ops Gas Piston rifle... Not having good groups with the Gamo Red Fire or Crossman pointed out past 50 yards. (Maybe I need to go with a heavier pellet) Any suggestions or feedback would be appreciated!

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but pointed pellets don't tend to do well at those distances.

By far your best bet is with JSB or Air Arms in the 10.3gr weight, next would be the 10.6gr H&N Baracuda Match or if you're lucky you may find a batch of the Crosman 10.5gr Ultra Magnums to group well.

Are you able to chronograph your rifle to see how fast it shoots a range of different weights?  If energy fades when you step up to heavy pellets (compared to mid-weight 8.x grain pellets), generally that's a sign that the pellet is not matched well to the power plant.

+1 but I did discover that at 55 yards with 16 grain & 18 grain pellets my hold over is 1.5 mil-dots & with Benjamin Discovery it is only 1/2 mil-dot hold over. My Daystate AW is not pellet picky and shoots most all round nose pellets good. Now my .177 MK4 is a different story she loves AA 8.44 & resized H&N FTT 8.64, but does not really like the heavier 10 grain pellets on low power.

I haven't had it past 30 yards yet but my Hatsan Mod 87 QE Vortex .177 likes H&N Sniper Medium 8.5gr and H&N FTT's.

The pellets you mentioned are not known for accuracy. I would try Crosman premier hollowpoints because you can get them at Walmart. From there the JSB 8.4 and the JSB heavy 10.3 and the H&N Field target trophy. The Crossman premier heavy 10.5 grain in the cardboard box have also done well.

You need to stick with doomed or round nose pellets in the 8-10gr. My TX200 will shoot pointed pellets, but its 22cal and shooting under 700fps and even then when it gets past 30yds the groups start opening up. Pointed pellets just don't seem to do well at high fps. IMO JSB rules.

Thanks guys for the feedback! I think I'm going to get a tin of all the above mentioned and see what the rifle likes best! Unfortunately, I don't have a chronograph yet, so I will update as to what I find! Thanks again for helping out a new guy!

If you're going to buy a tin of each, take advantage of PyramydAir's buy 3 tins/get one free deal.  Most of the heavyweight stuff isn't available at local gun shops, so online is the way to go.

 My Black  Ops Likes CP domed 10.5 gr , and most other 8 gr to 12 gr. domed or HP  pellets. hates anything pointed or plastic sabot styles.

So I figured I would follow up on this thread after purchasing several of all the mentioned pellets! By far the best shooting were the Crosman premier ultra magnum dome 10.5 grain! Pushed it to 30 yards this morning and had nice groups within a dime! Thank you guys for the advice!
