B272 Benjamin scope mounts-mount too far forward-eye relief 8"?? on 392

I put the benjamin B272 mounts on my 392
But with the 4x32 center point scope(came with Crosman phantom)
the rear of the scope is 8" from my eye
The field of view at 10 meters is small-maybe 10" or less
and I can't seem to get it sighted in-
funny with the tube like effect it should be easier to group shots-so maybe the scope is moving
In any case any hints on how to use those mounts on the 392?

I prefer the 495 mounts when needed ...but seems to me u either need a mac 1  mount or use a pistol scope for better eye relief...some have mounted  both rings forward of the turret to bring the scope closer....bare in mind Im still a newb and just reporting what Ive read...good luck

It mounts to the receiver as opposed to the barrel, and allows you to move the scope back far enough to get the proper eye relief. It does make the scope's center line kinda high, at least in relation to the barrel center line, but works ok otherwise, and costs only about 30 bucks.

Reason for my suggestions....My new to me 392 came with a no longer made Lundy and my 397 has a Mac 1...really like the set ups, only con is pumping position...good luck to OP...

Air Venturi-just looked it up-should work well-price right too

Oh yeah pumping the 392-with a scope-not easy
I found I have to sit the butt on the floor
Put my left hand literally right over the muzzle(something about that-even in a low powered air rifle…)
and pump with my right hand
I only use 4 pumps-so not bad

Another note regarding the Air Venturi: it requires you to really crank down on the clamp screws to keep it from shifting from side to side. You may also have to experiment with which direction you mount not only the Weaver rail, but which way you face the receiver mounts. I had them facing opposite directions (tension screw facing left on front, right on rear) to level the rail. I also mounted the rail "backwards," meaning the longer end overhanging the bolt as opposed to the barrel. That made pumping tolerable. If the Mac1 mounts differently/more solidly, I would look at that. my only hesitation is that it looks to mount to the barrel. Anything that mounts to the barrel of one of these guns frightens me, but that may just be ignorance on my part.

Yes I have noticed  that the 2 piece mounts -B272-(barrel mounts) are kinda' finicky.
Mounted on one side-they would never lock in tightly
Mounted the other side-they did-sorta'
I didn't try one facing one way the other  the other way
The actual mounts of the B272 look like the air venturi mounts
but they mount farther back-on the receiver-so they are distinctly different.
The MAC1 mounts do barrel mount-like B272-but mounts rail-all one piece

I will give it some thought.

You might try mounting the scope with both rings forward of the turret in order to bring the eyepiece closer to your eye. Not really traditional, but it does work. Did it on one of our Sheridans. The only problem is that the scope sits so low that there's not a lot of room for your fingers to get the bolt cocked.

and tried just that(someone else mentioned that-but until I saw your picture-"1000 words"-I wasn't dead sure what it meant.

I had a 6x 40mm simmons cheap scope-put it on
It worked pretty well-
but sure enough-tricky to pull the bolt.

I think I will try it again with a scope with a skinnier eyepiece

I had a 6x 40mm simmons cheap scope-put it on
It worked pretty well-
but sure enough-tricky to pull the bolt.

Charles, kind of cheesy, but I take a screwdriver and hold it sideways in front of the bolt to pull it back. Don't tell anyone.

I think I will try it again with a scope with a skinnier eyepiece

Ok I won't rat you out for the screwdriver
just don't tell anyone I use  a padded PVC cheaper bar on my 460(just for my arthritic hands-that skinny cocking lever digs to far into my worn out hands)

Oh I went with the mounts from Baker-10% discount+ got rings-can't resist a discount-and they are one piece
my guess is the screwdriver will still come in handy-the bolt will always be close to any scope
