Targets for Texan

Had the Texan out a few weeks ago to try it out at the range.  I don't think the spinners would have held up too good with the 350gr smacking them, so I brought along a few near rotten apples and empty paint cans to shoot at, then pulverized a cement block.  The fruit works great, nothing to cleanup, but anything else has to be cleaned up and thrown out.  I'm thinking of buying some 3/8" steel gongs, 4" $ 8".  There's a kit sold with the gongs and stand brackets, just add 3/4" pipe and a length of chain.  Is this overkill, would thinner steel hold up to repeated abuse?  Any other ideas?

You need at least 3/8 AR400 or AR500 steel plate.

I agree, I destroyed some targets, even using mutiple layer metal plates and sheets I have attached to backing.  Reason is, I can replace as necessary and cushion between to reduce noise.

I wasn't sure if 1/4" would be sufficient.  I'll go with 3/8" AR500 gongs then.  Thanks for all your replies!
