Piston Stuffing?

Kind of a dumb question (guess it shows my inexperience) but I have a newer 2100 with the plastic piston. Most of the advice that I have gotten involves "stuffing the piston" with metal rods. Can anyone explain this any further? Is there any way to buy an older metal piston and replace it? Thanks for the help.

I had an idea earlier today of using JB Weld and heat shrink tubing.

With the piston stuffing, basically you take the piston out and cut some metal rods (some people use nails) to fit snugly in the open area of the "cross" in the piston then JB weld them in place, the heat shrink thing might make it look better if there is enough room for it.

here's a link to a post i did a while back to stuff a 2100 piston that i used when i converted it to .22. i used wire coat hangers. 3 lengths per section.
wrapped with dental floss around the middle to prevent bulging, then black tape . The picture shows the cup end with some of the wire showing.

Will stuffing a 2100 piston bring up the velocity alone or did you do other mods? I read that the 2100's problem is air leakage. The mods described to cure leakage seem a little more advanced with some machining work. But if stuffing a piston and porting a angled hole in the valve I can do. I really like the feel of my 2100 but it seems way more difficult to work on than an 880.

Stuffing the piston on a 2100 should help, and doing all of the normal valve mods should help as well, and while you are in there might as well lighten the piston (put a bend in the front leg of the spring that pushes on the trigger, pretty simple while you are in it)

Stuffing....naw....just a 13xx flat top piston with a longer rod...extra bearing in the middle was "just because".
