I sorted 3 tins (350 total) of JSB Exact 44.75 pellets for weight.
2 of the tins averaged between 44.7 and 45.0 for weight. with an absolute max of 45.2 and a low of 44.2
the 3rd tin averaged 45.0 to 45.2 with a high of 46.1 and a low of 44.7
unsorted my boss was averaging 895 with an ES of 29
shooting JUST the 44.7 pellets I averaged 901 with an ES of 4.
the group size at 75 yards also tightened up.
now onto my next step, I want to make a head sizing die, but don't know what the diameter of these are supposed to be. just taking a handful of pellets the most of the head diameter being .298 with a low of .291 and a high of .302, the skirts are about .005 larger.
what is the head size supposed to be? .300?
I don't have a way of measuring my bore without possibly doing damage to it.
yeah I know, it's a boring day and I have nothing better to do.

Push a pellet down the bore and measure the skirt.

DUH, of course. I hate it when I don't think of the obvious.
thanks

so it's been snowing and since I'm stuck inside I've done more work on the boss.
the barrel measures .295 so measuring the pellets for size isn't required.
sorting by weight tightens up the velocity string quite a bit and tightens the groups up slightly, not enough to worry about unless I'm going to be shooting a 75+ meter match, then it will pay off. the pellets that weighed 44.9 - 45.1 were the most accurate at 82 yards (by maybe a 1/4")
I had issues with accuracy beyond 50 yards and noted in another thread the pellets were spiraling.
with a thorough cleaning and light barrel polishing, the spiral started to go away and the groups tightened up.
I finally solved the spiraling pellet problem by polishing the crown with a 600 then 800 grit lapping compound from Brownells, then an anal retentive cleaning. apparently one of the internal baffles had a roughness to it which disturbed the pellets flight path.
I now see no spiraling and in calm (<5MPH) winds, 30 deg and light snow. I am getting 1" groups at 85 yards. I need to persuade some trees to move to get a clear 100 yard shot from my indoor shooting position.
