new 4-16x56 leapers scope

Just got it today. Not being an expert on scopes, I have a question. Been using 4-16x44 Leapers, have 3 of them, no issues. First time I looked thru new scope, looks "fish eyed", like the old fish eyed 35mm camera lens. Try it a couple days or return it immediately? No issue sighting it in, just strange look.

While not "fish eyed" my 4-16x40 Center Point had a rather narrow field of view kinda like looking through a tunnel, however it actually performed well when I used it for hunter class field target shooting, especially considering the low price.

My guess that a 4-16x56mm scope in the Leapers price range was simply "ill equipped" (lens quality wise) to cope with that monstrous 56mm objective lens.

The second one was the same as the first one. I am thinking I agree with nced "My guess that a 4-16x56mm scope in the Leapers price range was simply "ill equipped" (lens quality wise) to cope with that monstrous 56mm objective lens."
I had also tried a more expensive Hawke 4 16x56 with almost the same experience. Make me wonder if the cataract sugary I had on both eyes but mainly on the right eye, if that might have made a difference. I am more than happy with the Leapers 4 16x44 so I will stick with what works for me.
I did wonder if the source I was buying from, DVOR, that sells at deep discounts, may have been selling either the lower quality of the scopes or possibly even seconds being their prices were close to half what others were. They were not happy when I asked that question.

Hummm....kinda reminds me of the Hawke Airmax I bought from Optics Planet and found that focusing at 18 yards shooting, then moving up to 10 yards and refocusing and shooting. The simple action of focusing the scope moved the poi about 2" horizontally. Here's the target shot before even zeroing the scope........

I called Optics Planet for a RMA number to return after explaining the problem. The reply I got from the nice lady was "since you mounted the scope it can't be returned". LOL....I said "unless I mounted the scope how would I know that the groups would be shifted simply by focusing?"  She said....."once the scope was mounted they couldn't resell it" so being a bit miffed I asked "are you reselling returned scopes that were claimed to be unmounted". Then I got an abrupt "NO WE DON'T"!

Anywhoo....the scope was exchanged for a new one by Hawke customer service and since the replacement Airmax also shifted the poi when focusing I gave up on the Hawke Airmax and returned with a couple extra coins to upgrade to a Panorama. The Panorama was a nice scope that didn't shift the poi by focusing, however it wouldn't focus sharply any closer than 12 yards at 12x even though there was a 10 yard etching on the AO. The Panorama was sold to an airgunner that didn't need a sharp 10 yard focus at 12x.
