Title: i want to buy a pellet "sizer" off of ebay. what SIZE should I buy ???
Post by: Abefroman on January 22, 2019, 04:37:48 PM
current arsenal is gamo magnum .177, hatsan 87QE, Gauntlet in .22, ATI Nova Vista on the way

I really like to shoot CPHP's for target practice because they are just so darn cheap, however, I am trying other more expensive pellets .. JSB jumbo heavy 18.13, H&N field target trophy, and I might buy some barracudas and some sniper magnums.

I'd like to buy a pellet "SIZER" off of ebay from england for .22, but what size should I buy ?  On ebay, they list 5.50 and 5.52.   What size should I get ???

Every gun likes a different size and type of pellet, so a 5.56mm sizer might be your best choice That way you won't make the pellets too small. In other words, if you aren't prepared to buy a whole set of sizers, don't bother.
You could buy an adjustable sizer and spend some time figuring out what size works best for each gun.

Mike,

Wait until you have the new airgun.  Find pellets it likes:  Are accurate; load easy, but not loose etc.  Measure the head diameter on those pellets.  Order a sizer at that diameter.

The bit that complicates matters is that pass through sizers will make the head and skirt diameters the same.  This may be OK with a PCP, but if you are going to shoot these pellets from any "springers"; they need the skirt diameter to be larger than the head, to "hold" the pellet so that pressure can build before it pops loose.

If you were asking about sizing slugs for a PCP, I would say .217" or 5.51 mm.  If you are talking about waisted pellets for a PCP, I would probably start with something a little larger.  If your only options are 5.50 and 5.52; then pick the larger one.  Remember, you can size pellets down; but sizing them back up is a little harder to do.

If the above sounds a little vague; it all depends on your actual barrel bore and groove diameters...

Mike, I look forward to seeing how you like that pallet sizer. I had entertained buying one myself but was not sure.

one thing to remember about pellet sizers.... they do nothing but make pellet smaller. Might be better to get a pellet gauge and see what size from the manufacture your air gun barrel likes.

The throbb  from England is adjustable and in my opinion itís the best one the others are hit   and miss with the Robb you can adjust it for your needs with each gun
