Title: I can finally say I owned a Hatsan...
Post by: avator on November 15, 2015, 12:54:42 AM
for one day.. I stopped at the local pawn shop and the owner said he had something for me. He knows about me and airguns and he saves the good stuff for me. He brought me a Hatsan  Striker 1000s new in a sealed box. I got it for $59.  My first thought was to chop the spring and barrel like I did the Silent Cat. I thought first I would break it in. The first shot cracked like a .22 lr then it settled right down. ^0 or so shots with open sights and I added the scope. Sighted it in and 60 or so later it was grouping dimes at 25yds. I recently bought myself 2 vintage pistols and a 312. I figured it was Betty Lou's turn. I knew she wouldn't enjoy this gun unless I lightened up that main spring. The gun shot hard so I knew there was room. I took it down to the shop and tore it down. Man, that is the longest spring I've ever seen in a gun. Every thing looked good so I pulled the spring out of a B3-3 and measured it. 3/4 inch preload... looked good to me. I cleaned everything up.. a little moly and heavy tar. Back to the shooting bench. Nice and smooth and solid thunk. Plenty of power and cocking effort was like the XS-25 that Mike detuned for Betty Lou last year.
It went from only shooting 9.8 winnies to shooting just about everything I had. I had originally told Betty Lou that I got the gun to resell. She was surprised when I handed it to her and told her it was an early Christmas gift. She shot the gun awhile but, I didn't see her normal spark with it.. I knew she didn't like it. Meantime the neighbor had a fish fry and invited us down for a plate. I normally take a different gun to show his everytime I visit. I took the Hatsan. I handed him the gun and it was instant love. He offered me $100. I told him I really was ready to sell it. Then he offered me $200. Man, he wanted that gun. I told him that $200 was too much and let him have it for $150. Tomorrow I'll go over and help him set it up how he wants it. He's bought 3 guns from me.

I seriously need to learn to take a springer apart and do what you did. I have an Edge springer .25, pretty much the same rifle as that Striker and you have me thinking I can smooth things out by sort of doing what you did, but I'd have to cut the spring and have no idea what you mean by heavy tar or where it would go, let alone what tools I'd need and any number of other things....on a good note though, you finally owned a Hatsan ;)

You have her to spoiled on wood but have to agree with her some, wood is so much nicer to handle.  ;)

Yep, that thing needed some serious dirty socks stuffed in it's stock. I hate that THUNK!! right in my ear. Don't get me wrong, I could have fixed it and I would probably buy another one at that price. I would also sell it again if someone came along with a buck fiddy.

Try the trigger screw mod mentioned recently in the turkey gate. My VMX trigger pull went from 3lbs 8oz to 2 lbs 8oz. 18 cents for the screw, 15 minute job. Didn't do as well in my Striker. Need a longer screw for it.

I like Hatsans OK ,, even if they aren't Sheridans ! LOL
Unlike Chinese rifles , most Hatsans I have seen are good to go right out of the box. Their FPS is not grossly exaggerated , either. They are tight, well made , but many are heavy,  & require some shooting to break in. Some are very powerful & makes you afraid the scope is going to flip off & hit you in the face !! LOL. Does yours have the nice trigger that the Model 95 has ??

When I shoot my 135 or 155 it takes a couple of seconds for my eyes to re-focus. Don't get your eyebrow to close to the scope. They will break a Hawke. Hammers will hold up. My Mach 12.5 also rattles my teeth. Shoot the thrill!

Did that trigger look like the top or bottom one?

One thing I could never warm up to was the Quattro trigger, on my 125. Pulling up,  and back on a trigger isn't easy, when you're using a stock with a pistol grip.

Yeah, that trigger does look odd now that you mention it.

The top one is what's in both my Edges, only real adjustment is a little phillips head screw just inside the little box the arrow points to. It's an m3x5 and I had to put an m3x8 in there to get any kind of adjustment. The Tuna triggers won't work...trigger blade is too short.

I didn't even look because I knew the trigger was just how Betty Lou likes them. I was sure I read that it could be adjusted for pull and travel. makes no difference now, it's gone.

Decker, the way you shoot a Quatro is pull up. You place your thumb on top of the stock right behind the safety switch. Trigger finger on the trigger and it's like squeezing you thumb and trigger finger together. I try to shoot all my air rifles that way. Just a different angle and thumb placement for  different triggers. Different with a thumbhole stock. Lay my thumb on the side

Bill, the top trigger picture is the Striker, Webley VMX and Edge trigger. The mod is replace the screw marked with the red arrow. It's a m3 x 5mm. Replace it with a m3 x 8mm.

Load the gun, put it on safe. Lay it across you lap, pointed a safe direction, trigger up.

Remove the trigger guard and the screw. Start the new screw in.

Put the safety on fire and screw the screw in till the gun fires. Then back it out 1 1/2 turns.

Replace trigger guard and check trigger pull.

Don't cock the gun with the trigger guard off . You might tear out the side stock screws.

When I did that with my .20 VMX it worked perfect. Reduced trigger pull from 3 lbs 8oz to 2lbs 10oz.
I might screw in back in 1/2 a turn.

With my .25 Striker 1000 I screwed the new screw all the way in and it didn't fire but reduced the trigger pull from 5lbs 4oz to 4lbs 3oz. I'm going to try a 10 or 12 mm screw.

Also your friend might like a 3/8 inch piece of plastic tubing stuck on the end of the trigger. I have a Gamo Shadow 1000 with that and it makes poor designed, sharp edged trigger a little more comfortable.

If you're interested in a .20 cal, lots of guys have been talking about the Webley Value Max's in .177 and .22 on sale on Amazon for about $70. I wanted a .20cal to add to the stable and got it off Amazon for $144 free shipping. No muzzle break/suppressor, just a plain front sight. They only had green composite stocks.

Bill, you really need a Hatsan 135. It will change you life. That could be good or otherwise. Later you all.

I like the Quatro trigger a lot & this is the way to get used to it.

I hope it helps in some repairs and you find a good use for that FD-PCP barrel.
We have a total of 3 donations now (including my own) but that's information for a different thread.
I also bought a 4 wheeler from the same neighbor, I spent the day messing with that and didn't get to any airgun work. I want to set it up for some backwoods critter gittin. I got a couple nice vintage BF and CR pistols and a box of some real useful odds and ends. Two more rifles and some ammo still to come.
We havin fun yet?

 Always having fun  :D

I tore the Daisy's down. Started setting one 880 up for a 12 inch .22 barrel I already turned down to fit a Daisy breech . Being it needs a stock anyway.... wood stock to be made. Maybe even a sporter stock.

I ran into another deal just now. My general manager has a Kodiak x2, barrels , box and all. Maybe shot 20 times. $75. I'm afraid Betty Lou will have my head.
