Title: My dream bullet
Post by: cfxlongshot on March 12, 2011, 10:54:00 AM
Wouldn't it be really cool if they would come up with a 50-60 grain predator pellet in .357 caliber?  I could use it for raccoons, jackrabbits, foxes and medium size game and use it on low power for more shots per fill.  That way after a morning of shooting hogs or coyotes with the bigger bullets I could refill and spend the rest of the day shooting prairie dogs or rabbits. One can only dream.  :'(

I'm totally with you on that one except i want a 100 grainer+.  That would be one bad chunk of lead for sure.

I guess my dream bullet would be a 30cal or maybe .32 BTHP, encased in a well sized plastic sabot out of the .357, or 40cal out of a .45, with the sabot eliminating blow by and barrel made for sabots, it would be faster than anything else and would be just as accurate as lead. With so many various barrel sizes and the limited(so far) appeal of bigbore AG's though, it will never happen >:(

unless those crosman engineers and marketing agents get busy.. ;D

If they scaled up the .22 cal Predator (16 gr.) it would end up weighing ~71 grains in .357 cal.... or about 46 gr. in .308 cal.... assuming all dimensions scaled, of course....

Jeff,
I've shot a bunch of Sabots in my 45 and 50 cals and want to share what I have run into and am very curious what others have found.
I've shot a bunch of the inexpensive Knight, the Thompson Center, and a few of the Power Belts.  The Knight and Thompson have the full length peel-back plastic sabot.  I have not shot them in a shrouded barrel because I think they would peel off inside and destroy the baffles.  The power belts shoot fine with a shroud.

The issue I have is that the sabots make the barrel nasty.  I prefer NEVER having to clean a barrel. You can smell the burnt plastic from the friction, but there is no gunpowder to burn the adhered plastic out of the barrel. I don't know if one brand was the culprit, but I didn't shoot too many of the power belts because they are too expensive.  The other two brands I shot lots of.

Anybody shoot sabots and want to say what they've run into?
Thanks,
Lloyd
