Here are some before and after pics of 9 grain Beeman Crow Mags i shot in ballistic gel a while back.
I was pretty amazed at how much they expanded.

The crow mags are the second pair from the bottom. They really expanded and put the brakes on.
CP lights 7.9 grain traveled farthest to the left. Total length of the gel is 11-1/2 inches.

Nice photos. They sure do expand more than the CPHPs.

You are so right! I did this a few years ago and then my computer died and I hadn't backed everything up, and I lost the file that had all the particulars about the test.
Like I said, the Crow Mags are easy to spot. The ones that went farthest were the CP lights. Others are, as good as my memory is, in no particular order:
CPHP, Beeman Kodiak, CP heavy, hobby WC, the pellet with the steel ball in the tip (forgot the name), and 2 others I can't remember at all.
The gel block was 2 inches thick x 6" wide x 11-1/2" long, and I shot 2 of each pellet, one pellet over top of the other. That's why they look like double traces.
The round nose pellets kept pretty straight.
It was a fun project that I ought to try again.

That is quite a lot of penetration no matter what the bullet out of an airgun.

Where did you get the gel? Was thinking of filling up some paper OJ cartons with the stuff.

Matt,
I made it using a recipe I found on line, came up with an overdone procedure, and then blogged it under the name "pestbgone" here back in 2007:

You'll have to scroll down to the Feb 19, 2007 entry which is about making the ballistic gel.
BTW, the Pyramyd air blog, and Tom Gaylord in particular, are what really go me hooked on airguns.
