Title: Possible new permission??
Post by: Bicycleman on November 02, 2015, 10:17:36 PM
A long-time friend telephoned this morning to tell me about a mutual acquaintance who has a huge squirrel problem in his garden.  The garden is about a block from my house.  My friend was sitting on the edge of the garden watching three squirrels eating plants about 15 feet from where he was sitting.  He said the gardener wanted me to go over with my "pellet gun" and shoot some of the pests.

Question:  So what's the problem and why am I not accepting the invitation?

Answer:  About a year ago, the guy with the garden let it slip that the neighbor behind the garden had called the Sheriff's Department when the gardener was shooting the squirrels himself.

Trouble like I need about as much as a flat tire on a lonely, dark road during a cold and rainy night.  >:( >:(

Any of you ever had that happen to you?

Hey Mike,
I guess I'd be interested in what the cops did when called the last time.  Is it inherently unsafe or illegal to be shooting there?
I'd agree though, that either way, taking a pass would probably be the safest bet.  Maybe a Havahart trap would be a better option for him.
I've never been in that exact situation, but once I got a call from someone that I knew, but not well.  He was clearing a lot to build a house and asked if I wanted to go up and cut some trees for firewood.  It wasn't till I was nearly finished that I learned there was a dispute between him and his neighbor as to who's property the trees were actually on...neat.

I think you are making a wise decision to decline the offer.  It's not worth the possible trouble that might result.  I agree that the live traps would be a much better option for control in this situation.
