Title: BigBore Ballistic Calculator
Post by: Butcher45 on March 10, 2011, 06:26:26 PM
I like this one with the yardage intervals set at 5 yards to get a real good idea of what a given slug at a given velocity is doing out of my rifle.  I sight my tuned 909 in at 50 yards to keep the maximum boolit rise down for precision shooting within the range I will shoot most (under 60 yards).  The calculator has from my experience proven to be fairly accurate when shooting slugs up to around 260grains.

Of course there may be an effect from muzzle rise to be taken into consideration with different air rifles, but you still get an idea of a load's potential.

Don't forget to enter the boolit info in the upper left-hand box and press "calculate" before moving on to entering the other info.

Butcher45,
Thanks for providing a helpful tool that many people will have come in handy , I know I will use it.
Hi Mr. JonnyReb, Hope all is level in your world and all in it is fine.

               Butcher45,
I have seen your name all over the internet where Air Rifles and Hunting are. Melting lead and
Casting your own lead projectiles and just about anything to do with Air Gunning and Hunting
and you have written something awesome and informative about it. You sure know a lot about
this sport of Big Bore Air Guns. I have 4 Big Bore Rifles from .456 - .58 Caliber. Could you help
me choose some ammo out for a few of these Rifles so I can understand how a Air Gunner that
is Noted in the sport comes to the correct ammo for the Rifle, And job at hand. The .456 Sam
Yang 909S ( Tuned ) is a Great Rifle, Just there is not much .456 out there for them. I buy my
Lead from Bob V @ Mr. HollowPoint.com, I get my Ammo there and Hunters Supply,  But some
of what I bought just dont shoot well. If you could point out some Ammo , It would be so Helpful.

Jetman/ Gary Catania / Disabled US ARMY.

Mr. Butcher45,
Thank you so much. I have read articles by you on , Predator masters forums,Gun and Game.com
The High Road (Best Ammo for a .45 Sam Yang 909S ),Hunting Chat. com ,Gun Loads .Com . Just
to name a few with really great information. I have gone threw so many different Lead Bullets I will
never shoot because there for the wrong application and are designed for something else.  Some just
do not work at all correctly for Hunting. My Tuned.456 Sam Yang 909S is still my go to Number 1 Rifle.
I am currently waiting on two new Rifles to be Built / Finished. One is a .457 Haley And The second Rifle
                     is A DAQ ( I Made the 1/22/2011, 50 Gun Build List Posted on 1/24/2011 ) So I picked A .495 Bandit and
put a written request letter in asking for a Long Action .50 Bandit, So I am hoping Mr. Quackenbush
builds a .50 Caliber LA Bandit for me, However I will take what I am lucky to have built / Made. I just
got my new Haley .58 Boomer Carbine with a 14" Barrel get delivered 12 days ago on the 16th of March.
My Wife Dawn loves this .58 Boomer Carbine as she is 5'2" @ 102 LBS and the Carbine fits here perfect,
I just may have lost a Boomer here.

       .177 QB-78 Custom Carbine w/ 13 5/8" Barrel
.22 Benjamin Marauder ( Custom Digital Camo Painted Stock )
       .25 Benjamin Marauder

       .456 Tuned Sam Yang 909S
.457 Haley Big Bore .45 ( On Order)
       .50 DAQ Bandit ( LA )  ( On Order )
.58 Custom Haley Boomer Carbine With a 14" Barrel

I am saving up for a Ranger .452 By Dan McVey with  815 FPE with a Vogel 540 grain HP Conical Bullet  @ 824.5 FPS
OR A .58 Caliber "TheFiftyEight " By Dan McVey with 1038 FPE with a Vogel 820 Grain HP Conical Bullet @ 755 FPS

I haven't forgotten aboutcha.....just realized that a proper write-up is going to take some time.

I'll get it done......should be worthy "sticky" material.  I would have loved to have such info all in one place when I got started with these bigbore airguns.
