Hi all,
I could really use your help. I've just finished fitting a JM spring kit in my HW80. Unfortunately I'm really struggling with refitting the trigger and safety. I've watched a couple of vids and read a ton of posts and yet I still can't get it done.
As I understand it the trigger has to be cocked, the front pin fitted, the safety pushed all the way home and the trigger swivelled until the rear pin lines up and the safety is trapped. There's also a variation where the trigger is pulled to trap the safety.
I haven't dismantled the trigger in any way so it should go straight back in. Well actually it does but the gun can't be fired and safety refuses to move more than an mm or two. To decock or get the gun apart I have to push the gun into some cushions and knock both pins out at which point the gun fires.
After half a dozen attempts I'm none the wiser and worried about all the dry firing.

Cock the trigger manualy, install the safety and hold it in place, then slide the trigger assembly into the slot until the pin holes are aligned. Don't worry about the trigger releasing, just recock it manualy if it does. Try using a small diameter drift through one of the holes to help hold the trigger assembly in the slot if you need another hand.
Does the trigger function normally out of the gun? Make sure safety is pushed in fully and the safety spring is still in place while your inserting the trigger assembly.

Does the trigger operate properly when it is out if the gun? If you cock it by pushing the flat top lever down, does pulling the blade release it? If not, there is an issue with the trigger pack unrelated to installation.
There is a small coil spring that goes around the safety button that is easily lost. Make sure that is being installed. You can use a retractable pen spring in a pinch.
After you install the trigger and safety, pull the trigger and make sure it clicks before you cock the rifle. Sometimes it helps to put a little wiggle on the safety while pulling in order to get it to click.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thanks Hammarhead, that sums up what I've been attempting to do albeit quite unsuccessfully.
The trigger functions perfectly out of the gun.
When every thing is correctly pinned in place should I be able to push and pull the safety in each direction?
Given that the trigger is cocked am I correct in thing that it should fully release when pulled?

Hi DanD, many thanks for your feed back.

Yes the trigger functions normally out of the gun and
pulling the blade, whilst out of the gun, releases the mechanism.

The safety's spring is in good condition and in place.

I'll try again

The only movement in tbe safety should be to release it. Once you do the safety shouldn't be able to be moved. And yes you are correct, if the trigger is still cocked once pinned it should release when the trigger is pulled.
Is the notch in the piston stem properly orientated?

Is the notch in the piston stem properly orientated?
I can't really tell as its not visible when installed. I'm guessing that its not as the safety continues to jam

If you have the cocking shoe and lever installed everything should be aligned correctly. Does the gun cock smoothly?

Its very smooth

When you dropped the kit in, was the long guide on the back and the short guide in the piston? That is the correct way.
Might want to take the end cap back off and make sure the piston rod has the notch facing down directly toward the trigger and cocking slot, and also make sure there are no foreign objects or debris that could bind the trigger assembly.
Good luck!

Thanks for the ideas

Its correctly fitted.

The piston has a liner of sorts so the orientation of the cocking slot and the piston rod slot is fixed
make sure there are no foreign objects or debris that could bind the trigger assembly.
The trigger is clear
I'm beginning to wonder if the tab forward on the top rear of the trigger cage is slightly bent. Its sitting hard up against, what I believe to be, the rear sear. I'm off for a trawl on the web to see if I can find a photo to compare mine against.

Sorted! I was missing a bushing that goes in the hole that accommodates the rear pin.
This meant that although pinned the rear of the trigger unit was able to move a few mm out of alignment.
Gents many thanks for taking the time to help me fault find in relation to this problem, its very much appreciated.

Excellent. I had a hunch maybe that was it, and figured you'd notice when you looked at pics of the trigger assemble.
You'll have to let us know how you like the kit.

Make sure you have that safety spring in place. Mine slipped out without me noticing and it got mangled. So now one of my R1s has no safety. SUX!

There's a couple sources for those. I do recall successfully using a retractable pen spring.

Glad to hear it worked out to be something simple. Not really too much to these that can go wrong. Please share your impressions of the kit, I have been thinking about installing one in my R1.

You'll all be the first to know ;D
Now I have to wait for the part to turn up ::)

Thanks Dan!
