My 909s is being tuned at the moment, I have many hundreds EPP/UG rounds, hundreds of roundballs, several 170-180gr Air venturi hollowpoints (those shoot good after I fill the hollow cavity with leather) a few bags of Robert Vogel hollowpoints ( I like them, they shoot real well but just can't afford to shoot them)
so I'm looking for a good 200-250gr slug, I prefer it to be on the cheap side, I like the prices Dash Caliber has (how is the 200gr ROA by the way ?)
Chris I know you probably are the formost expert on slugs for the .45 Korean, so any tips are well taken Thanks.
anyone else that likes to chime in I would really appreciate
Thanks
M

I don't think you can find boolits any cheaper than DashCaliber.
Safest bet for an accurate slug in that weight range would be the .456 MaxiBall. Also worth looking into off the top of my head are the REAL's, Lyman #454190, #45266, #454424's, #452374's, #452460, and #452389's if you can find them in a large enough diameter, along with BHD's WFN series.
I have always wanted to try the RCBS 230grain Cowboy slug, Lyman #452423, and the Lyman #454309 but haven't managed to get a hold of any of those yet.
Figure out what all you want to try, and ask for it here.

Thanks Chris, I just ordered a batch of Lyman 250gr, I see if I can post a picture of them.
.457 250gr Lyman from Dash Caliber

Is this a good design ?

Whoa!!! That has got to be the Lyman #452664, one of the default hunting boolit designs in the 250-265grain class when reloading the .45Colt (maybe even .45ACP) for hunting.
I didn't know there were any #452664's on the market cast from softer lead. That is another one to try for sure. Nice fat meplat to hammer game with! Way to go, DashCaliber! At .457 those should be candy in a 909.
If those are accurate in your tuned 909S, that will probably go all the way thru most of them hogs on a broadside shot. There isn't much walking around the states that boolit shot from a tuned 909S can't kill and kill quickly.
The guy I bought my #454424 mold from said he was going to replace the mold he sold me with a #452664 mold. He didn't like having to size-down the oversize .457 or so slugs from the mold he sold me to .452 for his revolvers (perfect mold for a 909 owner casting with soft lead though!).

Thanks Chris

I have never had the chance to shoot the #452664 design in my air rifle....always wanted to though just to see how it does in a Sam Yang barrel. It will be great info seeing how they work out in your tuned 909S!

Hey Manny,,I am looking real hard at a 909s and she's the single tube model.Do you think I'll be Happy with it?
Thanks,

You would love the 909s, is such a nice rifle, pretty lightweight well balanced, scary accurate with a huge variety of ammo, you can have it stock and shoot the 150gr EEP/UG all day, very cheap round, cheaper than roundballs, you would get a good 5 shots in the 200 FPE plus follow ups.
or you can tune her to either 2 power shots at the same fps over 300 FPE plus follow ups, or 3 powershots in the 300 FPE plus follow ups.
I wouldn't think twice about gettin a 909s

Three powershots at around 300fpe in .45 to me sounds like the way to go in a 909S rifle....especially if you want to both hunt, and shoot groups/plink with it.
300fpe in .45 is plenty of killing power to hunt deer and average sized hogs with.....most anything up to around the 250lb mark with a heart/lung shot, and enough to kill the biggest baddest boar roaming the planet with a well executed head shot using a heavy slug.
Having three shots that will hit the same point of aim without adjustment is nice to have on tap in many situations.

I've thought about rebarreling my 909 LH with a Marlin .444 micro groove barrel. Then, i can get spare Lee ..310 wide flat and Lyman Devastator HP molds and take some off the top of the blocks to get the weight down to around 200 grains.
Or, I could just use my lee 200 grain .44 full wadcutter molds and shoot .44 caliber soup cans.
Talk about a wide meplat. Absolute hammer.
If the Marlin .45 colt barrel is micro groove, I may get one of those and fit it, to take advantage of micro groove rifling and commonly available .452 boolits.
Or, I could just use my .45 Lee REAL and .45 TC Maxi Ball molds with the factory barrel on it.
What's the best way to ship my 909 for a tune?
I'd like to go for max power, since I can shoot the gun on the low power cocking notch for plinking with higher round count.

What's the best way to ship my 909 for a tune?
I put it into a case, and ship it in a big box filled with styrofaom peanuts. Shipped it several times that way, and have yet to have any sort of problem.

same here, I've sent many guns thru the mail, using USPS, not one single problem.
Ho yeah, send it to Will Piatt, he'll do it right
