Title: Newer vs. Old Silver Streak
Post by: SlowBykr on September 19, 2015, 12:29:16 AM
I had an older Silver Streak in the eighties, one with the rocker style safety.  How does that model compare to the newer ones with the safety on the trigger guard?  Are they of similar quality?

The older ones are better built. The newer ones are functional but nowhere near as svelte and sexy as the old ones.

Been a long time , maybe never, since I've heard anyone say.. "they sure build them better than the old days" about anything. Sure, things are fancier and modernized but, quality and durablity is just not there. I wonder how many 2014 397s will be around in 60 years. I bet some lucky guy will be shooting and enjoying my '69 347 "tootsie roll". Don't get me wrong.. I own a 2014 392 that does a fair job but, it's rare that I sit at my desk at work and watch the clock anticipating going home just to shoot it.

I like the quality of the older Streaks , too. See my " avatar ." Like was said above, I doubt there will be many newer Streaks out there 60 years from now, that have been fired thousands & thousands of rounds like mine. It busted a Crow the other day.

Another vote for Racine vintage Blue Streaks. I'm sure the Crosman versions are fine, but they are really a different animal than the originals as far as looks and feel in the hand. Still enough of the Racine made Blue Streaks around that I'd hold out for one of them.
