Title: New HW77K question
Post by: Rob Toneguzzo on September 12, 2015, 08:34:19 AM
Hello,
I recently bought a new HW77k in .22 cal and have put about 800 pellets through it so far.

It does not like JSB jumbo 15.9 g at all and the only other pellet I have tried is H&N Terminator 16.36g which it shoots very well (1 raggy hole at 10 meters and under 1 inch at 30) I will try some different H&N pellets when I can get them.

I put it over a RCBS Chrony (the bullet shaped thing) which I borrowed and the terminator shot at an average of 656fps with 15.64ftlbs.

Does this sound about right for a new .22? and how many shots on average before a new gun is shot in?

I plan to eventually do a tune when I have researched enough on the subject not to stuff it up.

It is a fantastic gun and one which I have wanted since a kid. I had never seen one before and had a very good surprise when I opened the box and picked it up.

I plan to do some rabbit hunting.

Springers generally prefer the lighter, medium weight (approx. 14gr) pellets.

The HW77 is very similar to the HW97; the stocks are different and the 77 has iron sights while the 97 doesn't.  If the often-preferred pellet of the .22 HW97 is also the preferred pellet of the HW77, consider trying the H&N Field Target Trophy in 5.55 or 5.54mm head size.  The .22 FTT pellets weigh 14.66 grains.  If your rifle is getting 15.64 fpe it sounds about right.  The lighter FTT pellets will have an MV near 700 fps.

15-17 ft lbs is pretty average for the 77/97 platform.

Agree on staying in the 13-15 grain weigh range.  May want to try some RWS Super Domes or good o'l Crosman CPHP in the tin.

thank you all,

Will deffinately give the lighter pellets a go.  I have 400 terminators left...will it do any harm to spring life finish of the heavier pellets?

Thanks again
