I know springers need air gun rated scopes.. My question is who has non air gun rated scopes on their springers with success? I have a Crosman Vantage and a Hatsan 1000 with a Sweet 22 and a Sweet 17 respectively with no problems. I've shot thousands of pellets through each and never had a problem. Please share your experiences with non air gun rated scopes on springers.

The SWEET 17/22 series BSA's ARE spring recoil rated ... you can confirm this visually looking sideways into the objective lens seeing the heavy spring that holds lens etc ... in place
-
Well I learned something new for the day! Thanks! Either way, I'm still keen to hear who has had success with non air gun rated scopes.
-
Please don't be offended, but why would you even risk it? I mean, I can see a newb doing it unknowingly, and perhaps with success... is that what you mean? Even still, the difference between guns may make all of the difference.
-
Some scopes not rated for airguns work well with them. Some scopes rated for airguns do not hold up at all.
Regardless of the responses you get the results will vary.
-
Well I was under the impression that my BSA scopes were not air gun rated.. But they were so cheap that it was absolutely worth risking.
-
Per BSA, the Sweet series is not springer rated. The large spring is to hold the objective in place against the adjusting ring. The internals, erector tube, reticle and adjustment assembly has to be strong enough.
That being said, I have had a Bushnell AR223 4-12X44 on my Trail NP2 for about 8500 rounds with no problem.

Ah, ok, gotcha. I recently bought a PSA crossbow scope at a gunshow. Those are also subject to a snappy, forward 'recoil'. Has become my fave so far, mounted on an R7 for backyard pigeon detail. The sub-crosshairs under the center one are great for ranging-holdover.

This subject came up a couple years ago ... BSA response as i remember it was that YES they are spring gun recoil rated.

IMO, it's pretty much gambling. You might get away with it, you might not. My RWS 34 has a Centerpoint scope on it, I bought it because of a number of positive reviews by AG users. Well, my gamble did not pay off.
I talked to a tech at Hawke and he said some non-magnum springers will even tear up AG rated scopes due to their particular "harmonics" at the shot. So I guess you just take your chances if you want to put a non AG rated scope on. Maybe you'll be fine, maybe you won't.

I have found that a designed scope for the AR automatic worked out good for me. I used the abuse of "full auto" logic, for selection. This scope has held up for over 10 yrs on a 12fpe fixed barrel. The Hammers make was my selection. It's a 3-9 compact.
Would this same scope work on a tough shooting 16fpe rifle? Who knows...
Balancing your optics is a biggie. Name Brand means nothing. Lotsa Hawke horror stories.
Cheaper scopes are Chinese Scopes. But they also make some good and tough scopes
A scope that stands up to FfUll AUTO" FIRING,,, is designed for abuse for most.
Glass vs. Toughness is your personal choice. Todaay's Glass is actually quite good. ;)

Would think an "all firearm rated even 50 cal." would work also. Have run across a couple of those I would have bought but they where to long for a underlever.
