Title: Scope for a Daystate Huntsman Royal
Post by: Bearcub5 on September 03, 2015, 05:08:45 AM
I am excitedly waiting on a Huntsman to arrive and would like some recommendations on a scope for this rig. I would like to keep it light and sporty for hunting and those long plinking sessions around the pond. I have some scopes like the hawk sidewinder and varmint and a big niko sterling, but I want something small to match the gun. Mil dots would be a bonus as I prefer them to clicking the turrets.

Thanks Roy K

I have the Hawke Varmint on the Bam 50 and really like it for the price.

If money is no object and you want a first class hunting scope the Sightron SIII 3.5-10x40mm LRMD side focus. They weigh 18 oz, are built like tanks, mildot redical that zero down to 10 yards, made in Japan with a lifetime warranty and the glass is clear. A couple of months ago they were just over $500 shipped now they are $650.

If you decide to buy one PM me. I found some $50 - $70 coupons.

That sounds like a good choice , but a little on the pricey side. I have the varmint and it is big but a good scope and the side winder is just too heavy so I may go with a Leupold vari x 2 in 3 x 12 x 40 ,it runs about $300 at gander mountain or cabalas. I would like side focus but front ao would be ok, how are the aenon scopes ? Do they make a small scope with high power like 4 x 16 that would work?

Thanks Roy K

Here's my regal with a Vortex Viper PST FFP 2.5-10. Just like you, I wanted short & light. This combo weighs in right at 7.5 lbs. by my bathroom scales. I don't know if this is in the price range that you are looking for but Vortex does make a second focal plane version that is cheaper.

Check out the MTC Mamba Lite series. They are popular in England.

In the link below Daystate has MTC scopes on a few of their rifles. It starts around the 11 min mark.

The Weaver V-16 is a very fine scope but is limited in the reticles that are available. Clear, bright, and mechanically solid. Focuses to 10 yards.

I went with the Hawke Varmint scope for now and it is a good match for this package . I am looking into the Mamba Lite scope series but that will have to be at a later date and after some saving up. The gun is still light and easy to carry with the Hawke and the mill dots are not too cluttered I was afraid of that . Squirrel season is a month away and I am getting ready ,but I don't know if the Daystate is going to do much woods hunting . The darn thing is just to pretty to get scratched up going through the wood , but I have some spots where the people want them removed that it will work just fine.
Thanks for the recommendations .

Roy, you will like the Varmint scope on the Regal. That is what I started with on the rifle. I have now mounted it on my P-rod to keep that short & light as possible. You are going to love the Regal for squirrel hunting. My Regal & FX Boss are my two go to squirrel rifles. I like the Boss's .30 when the trees still have a lot of foliage. Leaves & twigs don't effect the .30 pellets like a .22.  The rest of the time it's the Regal. It's just so light, handy, & accurate. 50 yard head shots are no problem. If I miss, it is more than likely my fault. It's just hard to beat. Have fun with your new set up. You are going to love it.

By the way, get you some JSB Exacts 15.89 gr. Regals seem to love them.

I am happy with a Vortex Diamondback HP 2X8 on my Brocock G6.  Very sharp and side focus is nice for the price.  Lens cover leave a little to be desired though.
