Took my 9yr. old grandson shooting and now he wants his own gun. Says he's willing to sell his paintball gun to fund it. What do you guys recommend?
-
Is he strong? What gun did you let him shoot?
-
He shot my B26-2 in .22cal which I loaded for him and fell in love with my AR2079A CO2 9oz. pb tanker also in .22cal.

I have a Hammerli 490 Express. It is very easy to cock, very accurate, and very quiet.[ I would compare the noise with my Red Ryder. The first time I pulled the trigger I chuckled. ] It does NOT have a lot of power, only denting metal chew can lids at 40'. I think it is a great plinker. You could shoot it all day and not get a sore arm. I also think think it is a great looking airgn.

Hmm. Mine loved his Crosman 1077 because it is semiautomatic, scoped, and I put a bipod on it. Likes it better than the Slavia sisters in .17 and .22. Others he likes thAt you should cinsider are Diana/Winchester 23/423. I'd also suggest you look at:
R7/HW30s
Daisy 130a with a CDT GRT trigger
QB78 series chopped down
Diana 25 variants might work too
I would not get him a b3 variant because of the safety issue and loading. Teach him to keep a Hand on the barrel at all times.
My 2 cents

Gamo Bigcat .177, super easy to cock.

A few weeks back, I bought a Crosman Raven https://www.pyramydair.com/product/crosman-raven?m=1713 (https://www.pyramydair.com/product/crosman-raven?m=1713)for my 9 y/o nephew. Really nice rifle, easy to cock, surprisingly accurate. $70 @ Pyramyd Air. Perfect size for him, but not so small that you can't shoot it.

Cool.
If I were him I would want a PCP. lol
Like Mike said, the boy only needs $63 bucks for a Crosman Raven - .177 - 600 fps. (after 10% coupon)

But....something tells me he'll want a semi-auto! 8)
Have fun no matter what. ;D

IZH-60 or 61, has the "Starwars" look to it.
Put a red-dot on it, and he is good to go.
It has an adjustable stock, so you can adjust the LoP as he grows.
Just be ready to get one of YOUR own once you shoot it. :-)
The other rifle to look at is a Daisy 953.
Might be a bit on the heavy side (like a target rifle), compared to the IZH 60/61.
And you MUST deburr the trigger. The stock trigger is lousey, pull is too gritty.
I use mine for a trainer/starter rifle, and w a red-dot sight it is easy to shoot.

crosman recruit ;D

If you can find a good Diana 24, especially one with the older, adjustable trigger, he will love it. Now, when he is nine, and later when he is thirty-nine. Accurate and great quality. Billed as "entry level" and a "boy's gun" but really more like a little 34. But they ain't cheap. Look to spend $150 - $200. (And, if he doesn't like it, you sure will, LOL. If not, you'll only be out shipping with a resale, if that.)
