How do you save a post for future reference? One that's still active and threads being added.

I create a folder on my desktop and drag & drop the title of that post there.
There are probably other/better ways of doing it, but this works for me
-
either reply to it,
or click "notify"
either way you will be able to find it at a later time :)

if by "save" you mean a link that will take you back to it you just add it to your bookmarks. (With Firefox there is a star to the right of the address bar, not sure about other browsers) Otherwise you can (while in reply mode) click the "+" to the right of "Attachment and other options" and then click the box to the left of "Notify me of replies". This will send you an email when someone replies.

On my computer, I have a menu item named "Bookmarks" that is ideal for keeping a watch on a thread. I usually add a new TAB and let it live there while I work on other stuff. YMMV
-
I just save it to 'Favorites' under an Airgun Forums header. Have an Airgun Dealers heading too.

I have a GTA sub-folder in my favourites list. It is titled 'Best of Bob' and it is for keeping track of all the useful, important and interesting stuff rsterne writes...:) I just use the 'Add to Favourites' when the post is open.
cheers,

Not sure how others work but this is for Modzilla Firefox.

If you want to make a permanent record, you can either print the thread, page by page, to paper.... OR you can use a PDF Printer and print them to a file and store it wherever you want on your computer....
To link back to it, there are already lots of suggestions above....

Thanks guys, I've been copying and pasting and saving to my documents on some stuff. Hoping to try a link method that will take my back to the original incase something has been added to the subject. Funny you should mention Rsterne, that's who I'm wanting to save. ;D ;D
