Title: got my new kalibrgun cricket carbine tonight and I need help
Post by: jvanschoonhoven on August 25, 2015, 11:30:52 PM
Ok so this gun is awesome! Shot a few mags throu it and its crazy accurate out of the box I finally came off the reg and velocity started to drop then i shot one shot and the valve stuck open and it dumped all the remaining air out. Tried filling it back up but the valve seemse to be stuck open never worked on one of these so wanted to know what i should do first?

Yea im a bit bummed... this rifle handles amazing! Good balance and super accurate. At 25 yards I was hitting the same hole over and over again. Probably opened up to .3 hole or so but i was just shooting prone off my backpack like i would be hunting. Shot probably 20 or more walnuts out of my walnut tree most were at 20 yards

Did you try cocking it and leaving the handle open. Just pull it back without pushing it back in and fill?

I tried everything  you guys mentioned and nothing worked so I took the air tube off to try and get a look at the valve cause it seemed to be stuck open sure enough there is a silver disc thing in there with 6 or so holes in it. Kinda looks like a cylinder to a revolver anyway the spring and guide rod for the valve are in there and some how it rotated a bit and made the valve crooked so it would not close. This disc is used to screw in farther for more spring presure on the valve. I took it apart cleaned the valve seat and everything  reinstalled it and its good to go now. Dont know if its set exactly as it was from the factory and I dont have a chronograph to check but it shoots great again.  Thanks for all the tips they were all good ideas.

I really cant believe how well balanced this rifle is. Its so easy to shoot off hand. The trigger is nice but a little heavy compaired to what I am used to. Tomorrow I might adjust it a little.
I had a hatsan Glatian in .25 before this and really liked it but its not even half the gun this is.

Head over to the TAG Forum and post your question. Ernest, GKU and other guys that tune Kalibrgun airguns post there. They helped me out a few times with Cricket questions/problems.

Schoon, that's a great looking rifle. I have the 25 bull pup version tuned by Ernest and it's awesome. Can you describe how the finish on your gun feels. Oh, Ernest Rowe has a Youtube channel and he show where that spring tension adjuster needs to be set. He also shows in detail how to adjust the trigger, on the bullpups anyway. Again congrats.

Jking,
Thanks I checked out that video and it looks like mine should be set for a little higher velocity then it was stock ill have to chronograph and figure it out! So far this gun seemse super easy to work on. Im stuck working  all day so wont get to shoot it till late tonight.
The stock feels great its a rhino lining so if feels like a solid synthetic stock with good grip and texture

I shoot competition  powder burners all the time so I am used to a very light trigger. I still have not decided if I want to adjust  it or just leave it for now.

So glad i got this rifle over the fx royale 500 or 200.

Whoever came up with the safty on this rifle needs to be shot with it a few times... It is the worst design I have ever seen. One of the many things that not worthy is to take it off safe you need to push it from left to right. Not something that works very good from the shooting position.

I'm always thinking about what my next gun is going to be. I've been following the Cricket rifle for a while and its on my very short list. FX 500 is also on the list but I keep reading about them being somewhat pellet picky and the regulated version is even more costly. I haven't really sold myself on the bottle guns either. Schoon, you might try some Benjamin domes. Sometimes ?? they shoot just as well as the Kings out of my Cricket. Post some groups and a shot string when you get time.

I will try to test some of those tonight  if all goes well. Im really busy so haven't  had much time to shoot this rifle yet.

So her are some pros as I see it compaired to the fx royale 500.
Pros: Has a real weaver scope rail built into the action.
Removable LDC (makes fitting it into a rifle case much easier and also makes it easy for aftermarket ldc for different  lengths depending on how quiet you want it.
Magazines dont rattle with lose pellets like the FX do.
Magazine is mountedlow in the recever so you can mount your scope close to the bore.
Long for end of stock for mounting bipod and sling.

Jking,
Shot a few 3 shot groups tonight with benjamin domes. Theses were shot resting the gun on my couch cushion laying on the ground no rear rest. I could watch my cross hairs moving around so have no doubt this gun shoots better then this target shows. This was at 25 yards and as you can see these were all shot in a row and I did not just pick the good groups or cutout flyers. So tonight I had to take my gun out for a quick long range test. Not a great test but I have a 8 inch steel plate that I setup at 127 yards.
I used chairgun to dial in my drop and was in the sitting position unsupported and focused my scope slowly pulled the trigger and thwack! Hit the plate 5 out of 5 times. Looking at the pellet strikes it looked like about a 3 to 4 inch group but couldn't  tell for sure.  Needless to say I was very happy with the results.
This is a hunting rifle so I am not looking at benchrest accuracy but rather field accuracy in the real world! So far this gun shoots very well in all positions I have shot it from.

So I got my bipod on my rifle today so I could test the rifles accuracy a little better then resting it on a couch cushion like I did before. Here are a few groups at 50 yards. They are typical groups not the best the rifle will do just average.
There was a bit of shifting wind so I will have to do some more testing when its calm.
I was shooting my steel plate so you should just see the pellet strikes.  The first photo was my very first group and I was aiming for the hole on the right. As you can see i was not completely zeroed.  2nd photo is dead center of my plate after ajusting  my scope from the first group

Shot 5 ground squirrels today from 20 yards out to 57yards. This is a hunting machine!

Nice indeed. Who did you buy yours from? I smack sparrows with my Cricket out of a 70 and 80 yard tree off of a shooting bench. What a pop! If the wind isn't blowing the 70 yard'r is almost a given. A little over kill but for sure a blast😉

I got mine from rlairgunsupply.com Randy was super helpful and really took care of me.  They are the only place with the black stocks I really love shooting this rifle! I forget its an air rifle with over 60 shots per fill and with my scope set so low i start off at point black zero 1.5 inchs low then at 30yards I am 1 inch high then drop back to my zero at 50 yards. So out to 50 I basically  hold dead on for body shots.
