I'm wondering what sort of lubrication people use o-rings and seals for pumpers?
I have played around with vacuum systems for work and l always used a thick silicone grease (Dow corning).
I am about to rebuild a Sharp lnnova so what oil or grease should l be using?
Regards

I use 30wt air compressor oil, http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/Air-Compressor-Oil-Non-Detergent-30-Wt/_/R-AAC826020_0136773769 (http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/Air-Compressor-Oil-Non-Detergent-30-Wt/_/R-AAC826020_0136773769)
I also use 30 wt chain saw oil http://www.walmart.com/ip/Super-Tech-SAE-30-Bar-and-Chain-Oil-1-Qt/16913789 (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Super-Tech-SAE-30-Bar-and-Chain-Oil-1-Qt/16913789)

For lube on O rings stick with the thick silicone grease such as divers silicone grease.
For example, this is what was recommended for the Airforce condor O rings:....:

It is food grade! ;D

i use Mac1's secret for lube on my 13xx .
for o-rings i use viton 75 from the o-ring store .

Co2 and HPA guns use work better with different o-ring material because of their different operating temp and pressure . you may find this thread here helpful ......

Thanks guys.
I contacted the supplier of the rebuild kit and they recommend Dow Corning Molycote 33.

I can't speak specifically to what this particular gun needs but I use straight 30wt Autozone oil in my pumpers for the o-ring seal on the piston. A fellow forum member tipped me off to this lubricant not long ago. CHEAP and easy to find at Autozone or most any automotive store. I was using secret sauce which also works but is far more expensive and exotic.
If you use a synthetic grease it could get inside the valve and possibly booger the check valve. I've had this happen personally with my flat top piston and o-ring setups in my 2289. Crosman pellgun oil works too. So does their rmcoil which is silicone oil. I have also used 30wt synthetic silicone shock oil for hobby cars. Again very expensive but it works.

Both steroided Benji 342 & Blue Streak get Secret Sauce from Mac-1. It's made especially for multi-pumps.

Both steroided Benji 342 & Blue Streak glike ecret Sauce from Mac-1. It's made especially for multi-pumps.
I'll be getting some of this for the Sheridan, but l was wondering what to put on o-rings for the initial assembly of a map in general.
Looks like molycote 33 has been suggested for the sharp innova. Unfortunately, l ran out of time to rebuild it this weekend.

i use secret sauce for everything on my 13xx , 0-rings , valve , linkage , bolt , trigger and compression cylinder all get SS . nothing else .
SS also works great on squeaky door hinges ;) . not only does it lower their SPL it also increases the speed you can open and close them which should also increase their potential FPE :)

I retract stating SS is expensive. I just bought a small bottle from Tim as well as some of his milspec #111 90 duro o-rings for my FT piston 2289. It's only $5 and there's enough to last quite awhile.

Use a liquid non-detergent oil. 30wt-nd, secret Sauce, and Pellgun oil are the best three. I used to use only 30wt nd, now it is secret sauce.
Liquid lube is very important in a pumper. It helps move any dust through the system so it does not build up. Grease is great for springers, NOT for pumpers.

I use their "4x" product. Have for a decade or better. Not exactly cheap....but works better than anything else I have used.

Has anyone tried a dry film moly like Drislide?
It goes on wet, then the carrier evaporates leaving behind a film of molybdenum di-sulfide. This stuff is real slippery and has an incredible film strength. I have used it when in the military on machine guns where there was metal to metal sliding parts.

Once again you need a lube that stays liquid with a Multi Pump. Otherwise the dust will build up over time and do damage to the sealing surfaces. I have recieved a few Multi Pump Rifles that were lubed with grease of one kind or another and they all had the same troubles.
The lubes to use with a Multi Pump Pneumatic Air Rifle are 30wt ND oil, Pellgun Oil, or MAC-1 Secret sauce. NO substitutes, no grease of any kind.
THESE ARE NOT SPRINGERS.

So, do you want to save pennies on the cheapest item you can buy for your $$$ air gun? Get the best!

you're gonna want something to clean the barrel of your guns , you could do a lot worse than ordering some SS from Mac1 and a crown saver to share the shipping and you'll have two first rate products to compliment your shooter .

DavidS , did you ever get a chance to try those viton o-rings ?

Good tips. Yes, sorry about that.
They are still going in a 2289 that I use daily.
