I am a pumper and love my Benji 392. Been thinking about the PCP route lately. Would love to get the Marauder, but just do not want to fork out the dough on one (then you have to invest in a scuba tank because I hear that pumping a Marauder is a beech! There's another couple hundo $$$).
Just saw that Walmart has the .22 Disco w/ pump combo for $399. Is that a good deal or should I wait it out? What's the lowest you've seen it go for? Where and when?
Thanks for the help and shoot em' straight!

If you want a deal on the package, it's only $360 shipped at Discosrus. With free chrony and leak test. Hard to beat that. Lowest I've ever seen in the package was $350 pre-tax, no testing (Amazon?).
-
Wow! Thanks so much....didn't know that site existed.
Has anyone had any experience buying the combo from Discosrus? Seems super low compared to that Wally World and Amazon is higher priced.
Just want to make sure I am getting a factory Brand New Disco and not a refurb.

Agreed with Andy. Norm is da bomb.
I sold my Gen 1 Marauder, and built a BNM Disco just for that very reason.
-
Awesome! I'd much rather support a local business than Walmart anyways, so if I can go the Discosrus route, that the way to go.
Thanks again for all the help!
Any pointers on the Disco? As a "pumper" do you guys think I'll love it or hate it? Not trying to start a new topic btw, just a quick question :)

Norm is a mod here. He will take care of you, and ensure you get a perfectly functioning gun, be it new or refurb. Mine is a refurb, and you could not tell from new when opening the box the first time. Once a gun is sold, and returned for any reason, it must be resold as a refurb if it had a problem or not.

I'm 51, and it's easy peazy, and relatively quick. That's why my pcp's are the small volume guys.

I'll reach out to him through his site and throw the questions at 'em :)

Norms a good guy. I just had a transaction with him and he went out of the way to make me happy. I was a first time customer too.
Discosrus is a GTA vendor and you can post general questions in the vendor gate.

Several months ago I bought my Disco and pump from Discos R Us. That was after a very pleasant and informative conversation with Norm over the phone. More important to me than the great price, was the fact that he pulls out the gun, pumps it up, shoots it over a chrony, and pressure tests it overnight before shipping it out. That's an outstanding service!
Guns' been great ever since. Wouldn't hesitate to do it over again!
With Wally World, you could just as easily be getting someone else's return as a new gun and not know it.
Ron.

Definitely go the Discosrus route, but they can be found cheaper. Last year from about mid November to mid December they had the gun/pump combo for $300. I promise you, you will love the Disco! Accuracy is great and with some modding, you can get 25-30 good, usable shots at 18fpe. I have a link in my sig to my ongoing thread about mine, if you haven't seen it already. Also, Ribbonstone has another great thread started about a week ago about Discos in the PCP gate if you want to check it out. I think it's called "what the Disco can do"
-
Thanks for all the pointers guys!!!!
Now I am wondering if I should go the Marauder route. I love everything about the Marauder (besides the price), but it seems that a tank would be rediculous expensive...so here's my question:
Is it impossible to hand pump a Marauder? How many pumps to a full gun?
I will only go .22 or higher, so no .177s.
Thanks again!

disco is a great little gun. I through in a heavier hammer spring and pump to 2500 psi, gun is a tack driver and hammers the squirrels. After owning the .22 m rod, I liked it but its accuracy went to *(&^ and I made it worse trying to fix it. Sold it to someone that knew what they were doing and bought a used m rod trigger from a member here for the disco, much better:)
grab the gun and a marauder trigger group for it, well worth the extra cost over the junky trigger that it comes with.
that said, i might grab a .25 marauder. Sounds like it better made then the .22, barrel at least.
-
also, besides the first pump, its not bad at all. I didnt find it much worse if any over the discovery. Wouldnt hold me back from buying it
-
I have the Syn Rod .25 stock. Pumping is not too difficult. I don't know how many pumps it takes to go from 2k to 3k psi but I do get close to 24 useable shots out of her around 40 ft lbs with 25 grain JSB Diablos. Great gun, silent, excellent trigger, accurate out of the box. Only use it for hunting and not much target practice since I don't have a tank. Recently fell back in love with my Disco .22 after modding the spring and power adjusting screw. 12 Shots out of box to 21 shots and easy to pump. Just remember to compare how much value you are getting with the Marauder. Full shrouded barrel, great trigger, multi shot bolt action, and Green Mountain barrel in .25 cal. Both great guns. Disco is compact and light. Just depends on the job requirements I suppose. Can't go wrong with either.

Great points by all.
I def want to get a hand pump (for now) and if the Marauder .25 is not to much a PIA, then that might be the ticket.
Still a tough call regardless.
-
Well, whatever rifle you decide to get now you can always get the other one later. You'll already have a pump. ;)

The disco should be a breeze to pump. I had an Mrod in .25 and it was easy to pump and was not time consuming. The .25 mrod has one con to pumping if you want to call it that. If you go with whats considered the power tune for a stock Mrod you will get about 16 shots and maybe a few more but 20 tops. So for hunting it would still be easy to use and pump but if punching paper it will get old cause 20 or less shots go quick on paper. There are some tunes that get you over 30 good shots in the .25 and it still has more than enough power for small game hunting but makes paper punching a little more fun for the guys pumping.

hahahaha...... Not laughing at you.... just the process.... I pumped my Marauder up for the first time with a Mike Melick Pump.... not counting the problems I encountered with a Hill I returned, it took probably 300 pumps with between the two pumps to 3000. The pumping isn't difficult really, but I was cautioned to take care about heat, and that is what took the time... pump for a couple of minutes maybe and wait till it cooled... it (in my case) got quite warm rather rapidly, so i maybe was overcautious... and topping it off after shooting was only a minute or two...... but I'm back to zero now because I left the pump attached to the gun and it degassed... bummer.... :D

I would say it depends on what you plan to do with the gun. Besides the added FPE of the Mrod, it has the rotary magazines which are pretty cool and very convenient. Otherwise I would consider what you're using it for, and if you need the significantly stronger and more expensive .25 cal Mrod or not. An alternative might be the .22 cal Mrod. The .22 cal Mrod reportedly has issues with the barrels but I'm not up to date on where that stands at Crosman.
I really like my custom Disco with BNM repeater breach. Basically a Disco with a breach that uses the Mrod magazines.
Shooting 18 grain JSB at around 750fps, it has dramatically more power than my 2289g shooting 14 grain lighter pellets at around 100fps lower speed. Both can drop squirrels with the Disco doing so at farther distances.

;D If you are going to use the Marauder for hunting only then hand pumping will not be that bad if plinking and target shooting then the .177 is a good choice
-
I have both the .25 SynRod and a .22 Discovery. I have a Hill Pump and despite what others say, I find pumping the Marauder MUCH more difficult than the Discovery. I now have carbon fiber bottles but if I had just the Hill pump I would sell the Marauder.
Also, I have so much fun with my very accurate Disco that I usually just reach for that when I want to shoot. It takes rabbits and squirrels with ease. Don't get me wrong, I love my Marauder and its accuracy and long reach (100 yards) but the lightweight, easier to pump, Disco (3-9 Bug Buster scope) is my go to gun unless I'm hunting larger game.
Hope this helps.
-
I think it's settled. You're just gonna have to buy one of each! ;D

I was happy to read this conversation today.
It is a good reminder!
A person can buy direct or from the big online outfits at similar or maybe lower prices. Maybe Not!
As mentioned there are the "Big Boxes" too.
I had not heard of DiscosRus before today, but I have done business with the "big boys" and at best, problems were immediately responded to with another gun in a sealed box. I like to shoot but am tired of a "&^^& Shoot" (As in throwing dice ;) ).
Now we have found option from a man with a good reputation as best as I can see. For his price he won't tune it but he will fill the gun and fire a string, share the results, leak check, and doing so will discover flagrant problems, or he won't stay in business.
After the sale, it seems he will be there as a source for Mods and service or parts and help depending what we may want to do.
The original comment about the big box perhaps landed in the wrong gate. I am pleased I found it.
For me it struck home.
As a result, I am grateful to have read this conversation.
We sometimes get caught up in "bigger business is cheaper" and sometimes it is. (until the little guy goes under)
Small business built America and we need to keep onshore skills alive and small businesses going.
We have other options and this company is but one of them. Finding them is the challenge.
I don't know this man yet but I will. I am going to give him a try thanks to all I have read here.
As I get into PCP I am sure I will find other small businesses doing things as well. I have found some already.
Certainly a man's skill and knowledge is value added.
More than once I have forgotten that.

You want good deal, Norm is a good person to buy form, I have purchased just about one of everything form Norm. Talked to him many times on the phone as well. You get a better deal due to he has free shipping, no tax (Walmart taxes you), gun is tested for leaks and shot string. He has many ad-ons for the Disco as well. You need a good deal, deal with Norm at Discos R Us. http://discosrus.net/pcp-airguns/ (http://discosrus.net/pcp-airguns/)
Norm has done a lot of work for me as well and his work is excellent.
