Title: Huh?
Post by: hotshot on August 18, 2015, 05:51:24 AM
So is this a Hatsan spring-powered air rifle only forum now? Who made that decision and when did the notice go out?  :o

I saw that crapload of MOVED-Locked posts when using the feature here:

Show unread posts since last visit.

I just figured there was a spammer with an awful lotta time on his hands.... ::)

Looks like they need to rename the gate here.  After all it does say "All Springer/PCP Air Gun Discuccion General", talk about confusing???

yeah I saw lots of hatsan specific threads moved to the all pcp gate.  I guess when I need to find information about a Turkish air rifle I have to sort through all the other threads about non Turkish air rifles to find it

Is this what you are asking about?  --->  More rearranging (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=95790.0)

Simmer down folks, this is what should have been done from the start. Just like we have other country and manufacture gates but they are for springer/NP airguns only. ALL PCP discussions should be in the PCP Gate.

So retitle the forum!

All in all it suits me as I have no interest in PCP's.

I agree, it's time for some clarity in the titles of the Gates if it is the wish of the Admins to have ALL PCP discussion in the PCP Gate.... All the other forums should be specified for Springers (including Gas Rams) and Pumpers only (even though some pumpers are really PCPs with an onboard pump).... Since there is a Korean PCP Gate, and there is (was) more activity in the Turkish Gate RE PCPs than there, perhaps a Child Gate for Turkish PCPs should be considered for them?.... and, of course, where do you stop?....

It makes my life easier, as I'm only interested in PCPs....

Bob

Right, where does one stop.

Everything in it's own little slot, course the trick is where is the slot.

Remember the old adage, KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid.

;D I like knowing that I can find all PCP/Co2/Pumper in one gate and find springer information in the springer gates sometimes it can be cumbersome finding your way around at first but eventually you will settle in on your favorite gates.

To para phrase an old adage "You can please some of the people some of the time but it can be extremely difficult to please all of the people all of the time"

We can have 50 gates and there will be posts in the wrong gate. I too have done it. We are just trying to do a little house keeping. :)

Phew!  I am glad I have never posted in the wrong gate!   ;)

Seriously, there were many gates when I joined the Forum.  I navigated my way around, made some mistakes, got some things right, and survived.  Since that time, there have been changes.  I have adapted.  If I can do it . . . .

And I know it is for the good of the whole!  Applause, applause, applause!

Actually, we have ALWAYS had country/manufacture gates ONLY for springer/NP airguns. And the PCP Gate was set up for ALL PCP's. Korean Gate is the exception since that is ALL they produce. I guess we COULD do away with the Korean Gate all together and drop all of these posts into the PCP Gate too.
Thing is, we ARE TRYING!!!!
Keep in mind we are members too and have to search, navigate and live on these pages too. JUST like you.
Although we do appreciate and accept any constructive criticize, I and the rest of your VOULNTEER staff don't appreciate complaints from those that just sit back and do nothing to improve our home. Sorry, but steam coming out of my ears at the moment. If you want to step up and give untold hours to help as we do, just let me know. We will consider all volunteers.
We also welcome and appreciate advise and suggestions But if all you want to do is complain and ridicule, go elsewhere. At least WE ARE TRYING!!!!

Not sure if that would be a major task for the administration to accomplish but I think that may be a good solution.  Also a general sub gate for just general Pneumatic/CO2 discussion.  As always JMO

Sorry Dave got in late after you.  All in all I still think you people are doing a great job.  No matter what is decided it is a great forum.  Like anything else once one learns to navigate through it it should not be hard to do so.  JMO

Thanks Paul. Forgive me blackfocal and Paul but maybe I'm not grasping your suggestions. There will not be a ton more gates created. But we can certainly use some good suggestions and creative criticism on the forum structure. We will not have separate country gates for each PCP. And separate gates for each country/manufacture for springers/NP airguns. Folks are already pounding us with complaints of too many gates already. LOL
Add fuel to the fire?
As Bob stated, where does it end. We underwent a major reorganization a couple of years ago when Joe spent hours outlining a new format. All of the staff looked it over, we tweaked then implemented it. We are a work in progress and can always improve.
Okay, I'll say this then. If anyone wants to take the time, please draw up an outline of what works best in your eyes. Anyone that wants to participate, please do. After you get the outline in writing, please present it to me via pm or email. The staff will throw all of them on the table for discussion and we can take the top 5 and present them to the membership. And let the membership pick by poll vote which format to use.
THAT will give anyone willing to spend the time the opportunity to REALLY get involved in our forum. And give all of the family a chance to voice an opinion.
Any and all clearly written suggestions will be considered.
How's that???

I'm kinda liking things the way they are now. If folks would just make a little more of a concerted effort to put their posts where they belong, instead of just any ole where, things would be much easier. Sure, I understand that some mistakes will be made, (we all make them) and some posts can fit in multiple places. It can be a little confusing at times and especially to a new member. But the way we have it now is very clearly defined if folks just pay a little attention.

Hi
I just want to say i think the administrators and moderators do a great job.
I also want to thank all of you for all of your own time and effort that you give to help our sport and to make the GTA a great site.
I have been on other forums and their information.was scattered all over the place.
The layout on the GTA works for me.
I for one am happy the way it is and if the powers that be feel the need to make a change I am for it.
So thank you everyone for all that you are doing .
This is just my opinion.
Have a great day

Dave

sorry about my previous comment. I didn't mean to complain just to complain, I just hadn't had my coffee yet and every thread it seamed that I had interest in reading had been moved and wasn't easy to track down.

that being said I still love this forum and you guys do a great job of managing it.  I'm sure things will settle nicely into place after the initial shake up of the rearranging
Title: Re: Huh?

One possible way to organise it could be by manufacturer, regardless of nationality, power source, or form factor.

E.g. Air Arms Gate, Brocock Gate, B.S.A  Gate, Crosman Gate etc., etc., -----------------------> Zoraki Gate.

Just a suggestion which might help people looking for information on their particular airgun find it more quickly, perhaps.

Well please feel free to advise all the folks here myself included do this as volunteers and have the joy of listening to less than gracious comments from a select few who have nothing better to do than criticize our efforts to maintain a friendly and informative AG forum

Well Jon, too bad you find so much wrong with our little forum that you constantly belittle it and the staff. I think we have something great here even if you don't. You see, it is what the members make it. And if we allowed attitudes like yours to build our forum, well....your comments speak for themselves.
Too bad your time with us was so short, and by YOUR choosing.
Goodbye.

The problem I can see for your suggestion is that not all airguns are sold under the manufacturers name.  Some airguns that are basically the same may come under several different brand names.  Even over a period of time the exact same airgun may be sold with a different branded name.
The problem with controlling a forum like this is there are tooooo many airguns and brands to categorize.  But as I think about it if one was to understand and follow the rules set a best as possible.  Navigating for information is not that difficult once one gets accustomed.  As someone mentioned that's where the search engine comes in handy.  As always JMO

The two moderators with the same name and their ultra-cranky attitudes towards people making reasonable posts they somehow find unreasonable are amply demonstrating why, despite this being a remarkably useful and interesting website,  I've not posted here for months.

Don't say you want constructive comments when you are intolerant of anyone who posts an idea that doesn't mirror your own. If you have steam coming out of your ears, you need to take a step back and calm down - no one has made an unreasonable post on this thread.   And don't try saying this is a trollish comment - it's not, it's 100% accurate.

Gentlemen please understand that there are times that what seems reasonable and constructive is not necessarily so Earlier in this thread there was an individual who was anything remotely resembling constructive many of his 100+ posts were both provocative and rudely aggressive and he is part of the problem not part of the solution. DEz also suggested PMing some carefully thought recommendations and after careful review the forum would post the best to be voted on by members I suggest that the suggestion be worked on by all members interested in making this a better forum work with us to that end . I will also suggest that we all stop beating this dead horse

Well, if you care to look back, I asked for your forgiveness in my statement. But I guess that slipped right past you.
As for whatever, try I'm the owner of this forum. And the Executive Administrator. THAT does not grant me privilege to say anything I would not allow anyone else to say. But myself and the staff bust our keesters and use up every minute of our spare time maintaining this site the best we can. And when it garners such comments as the recently exiled member, well, it was earned. Two moderators with the same name? Don't think so. Cranky? You bet...when folks spit in our faces for all we do for YOU.
Get mad, don't post, move on. Whatever. This site was built by GOOD members with creative and constructive comments. No unreasonable comment is turned away. And please remember, we have been at this for years and have tried or used just about every reasonable suggestion given.
We have a great forum and it will continue to be, thanks to contribution members. Not those that CHOOSE to do nothing or nothing but complain and ridicule. THAT is what gets me steamed.
This thread has gone way bad so it is locked. Enough has been said. I know where some of you stand and you know where I stand. Keep the rules of this forum VERY fresh in your mind. That's all I'll say about that.
Thanks to all of you MANY that keep GTA a great place.
