Title: Hatsan 95 Vortex Noise Level (.22)
Post by: Air Rifle Newbie on August 13, 2015, 01:17:38 AM
I've been looking hard for several weeks at options for a .22 air rifle for plinking and small game, and I've landed on the Hatsan 95 Vortex (refurbished). Planning to stick a Leeper's scope on it and have some fun. My only reservation is noise level...I've watched videos on the web, checked out PA's noise ratings, etc, but I'm curious to hear from someone who has first hand experience how loud and "backyard friendly" this would be. Specifically, I would like to know how the noise level (down range, primarily) compares to that of a Daisy 880 at 7 or 8 pumps. I would prefer a bit quieter, but would be OK with roughly the same. My other option would be the Trail NP2, though it seems the Hatsan is the better gun from what I've read. Any thoughts?

I don't have a Daisy 880 so I cannot compare it to that.  However, I find the Hatsan 95 not too loud to shoot indoor or in the backyard.

My 95 Vortex in .22 is not very loud; I don't have experience with a Daisy pumper so can't compare, but Hatsan claimed, I think, that the new QE models coming out would be about 50% as loud as the non-QE ones.

It sure sounds quiet on the videos online. Seems like a really nice gun for the money. Nice trigger, low recoil. Have you guys found it to be a smooth accurate rifle?

Greetings,

My Hatsan 95 Vortex is very accurate, moderate recoil, and medium loudness.  If this is your primary concern, do not get the Vortex 95.  It will always be louder than you want.  Look at the Hatsan QE line, also think about getting PCP with moderator.  The Hatsan 95's in Vortex are not real loud, just too loud if you are worried about it...
Hope this helps.

Yogi, ideally I would get a nice quiet PCP, but I'm looking more entry level at this point, and the .95 seems nicer than most guns in it's price range. I'm OK with some noise, just not much more than a Daisy 880. I'm not sure how accurate a springer will be for me compared to the 880 (which has basically norecoil), so I want to ease in slowly with a nice $120 (refurbished) rifle and $60- $100 scope. Then maybe in a year or so I'll go for the PCP and scuba tank...

I have a Hatsan 95 Vortex .22, and while I don't have an 880 to compare it to, I do have a Crosman 760. The Hatsan is at least twice as loud as the 760 pumped up.

The Hatsan is a great gun, especially for that price range, but it is not a quiet gun.
