Been playing around with one of my B51's off and on for the last couple of weeks. My goal was to set this one up for right at 12fpe and use it for the GTA shooting matches. So, I ordered another Milo74 regulator as the other 2 have served me well. Choked the barrel by heating and quenching the first inch in oil, polished with JB's Bore Paste and smoothed the leade and began trying a few different pellets. Been adjusting the speed and preload trying to find that sweet spot on the accuracy and today I found it...at least I am close enough I aint jackin with it ;) With a 797 fps avg, this was the results with AA 8.4 4.52's. Still need to do some strings and check shot count (it's a bunch!) and see if I am adjusted on the "knee" of the curve because at this point I don't have a clue lol. All my testing thus far has been on speed/accuracy.
Might have to just make me a bench rest style stock for this one, or buy one if you know where one is at.
Both targets are 25 shots each, one @30yds and one @50yds. That bottom left hand pellet is the only one that won't fit under that dime.

Had a lot of good help over the last couple years Scott ;) Thanks!!!

Hey Bman,
Great shooting 8), I need to try this ;D
Which do you believe helped more: 1) reduction in power to 12 FPE or 2) the choking mod?
Thanks for sharing,
Kirk

The leade was the biggest item on this one, once it got smoothed out things really started coming together. I was getting a lot of pellet damage before that, ugly! I wasn't really too concerned with the final FPE, 12 was a target, but wasn't a requirement. I put four targets out in a line, each higher than the other @ 10, 25, 50 and 75, and used a laser to line them up. I just tweaked speed and tested pellets until I got something that flew straight and grouped well. It's shoots well up to about 850fps, but most consistent was right at 800 with that pellet. Once I got that dialed in I shot some groups at 30 to see how it would do for the GTA shooting matches. Hope to get a card in for next week with it.
The choke was more of an experiment than anything, had read about it and thought I would try it. Only reason I tried it is the barrel is pretty sloppy. Jury is still out on that one! ;) Probably not something I would do again.

Yeah Bman,
If I could get results like your pictures above, I would be very happy :D
I've got so many guns now, that I need to downsize the pack and take more time with the remainders. I'm to the point where to improve their accuracy, they all just need to be worked on, fine tuning the barrel Leade, Crown, bore itself and it's compatibility with mounted LDC's. Then, using the RVA, find the ideal pellet speed for optimal results.
I've spent too much time on their looks at the expense of really honing accuracy at 50 yards or better. I know for some folks these are the fundamentals of good shooting; I need to apply them more consistently.

Well done Chief....
