Title: Happy with a new HW95
Post by: samosho on August 01, 2015, 02:18:05 AM
Just wanted to say that after expecting to have to wait for several weeks before AOA would have HW95 in stock, I got an email yesterday that they were shipping it. UPS tracking said that it would be here on Monday but it arrived today. So it took about a week from order to delivery. And the price was right. What a great deal!

I haven't had a chance to launch any pellets through it yet (too many neighbors in the city where I live) but from what I can tell this is a well made air rifle. To me she's a beaut.

Happy trails,
John

Congratulations.  That sure is a heck of a deal.  Let us know how it shoots, what scope you'll use (if any), and please post some pictures.

That's great!  YOu have a quality piece of steel and wood to shoot with there.  These rifles are accurate, generate good power, and take to tuning well(easy to work on).  Just FYI, they can be a bit buzzy out of the box but don't let that sway your opinion of them, they still shoot!  I have 2 95s and one R9(same action) and they are my absolute favorite air gun.  I tune mine down from the factory level to the 12-13.5 fpe level.  I prefer them here but they are great at factory speeds too.   That's just my personal preference for them.  These new rifles are being reported to be very consistant in velocities, shot to shot and I have found that to be true with my two latest HW95s.  Have fun and keep us posted!

JSB exacts 8.44 seem to do the best in many of the 95s.  They are best in all three of mine except for the .22 which is still JSB but 15.89 gr!

John,

Give us a full report when it arrives!  Are you going to scope it?

I ordered one, for a friend, last week.  They told me 8/15 they hoped to get the next shipment in.
I am now thinking about their refurbished HW95 for even greater savings.  I assume that the rifle was one sent back.  Will they tell you the reason?  Will they have fixed whatever was wrong?
Thanks

Thanks grauhanen. Yes, it was one of those deals where it was too good to pass up. I can see it happening already, maybe I'll get too much into the h/w (air guns) and not enough into the s/w (actually shooting them). Good news is that last evening I took out one my other rifles (Walther LGV Ultra in .22 - synth stock) into the backyard and I believe that it is quiet enough to do some target practice from time to time as long as the backstop is a quiet one. My immediate neighbor has already seen one of my boys use airsoft rifles and last week we tried out the Walther and thought it was a bit too loud back then. But maybe it is OK as long as our neighbor doesn't complain. Time for good neighbor policy!

I'll try to post some pics later but I need to figure out where and when to take the picture. Also, it is stock and I'm not sure if I'll put a scope on it. I really like the iron sights it came with. And I haven't tried it out yet as I'm pretty sure it will be too loud for backyard use. Gotta wait until I take one of my sons out again most likely.

Cheers,
John

Brett, thanks for your posts and information. And it is reassuring to hear that this will likely be a gun I'll keep and appreciate. I am looking forward to taking it out soon to do some plinking and some target shooting. I may mount a scope on it temporarily to see how she performs but right now I think I'll keep her just the way it is. Maybe in the future as I learn more about making adjustments I will try some.

And thanks for posting the great photos. I'd have to drive for at least 45 minutes or more before I could set out my HW95 to photograph. In my small backyard there's not much to see except some junk. And if I took it to the local park to photograph I'm sure there would be about 5 police cars arriving withing minutes.

Cheers,
John

Yogi, when I spoke to someone over there a couple of weeks ago they told me that they were hoping to get some units in around mid-August. So when I learned last week that they were shipping one to me on Thursday, I was a bit surprised. I assumed that they got a shipment in early but I could be wrong. It arrived on Friday and looks new to me.

I may not scope this but we will see. Just looking forward to trying it out when I can. Will need to wait until I can get out of town to do this though. Although my immediate neighbor is OK with some pellet shooting I've got a lot more just on the other side of them in a condo complex and the sound of 'crack', 'crack', 'crack' could cause one of them to make a call to the local law enforcement agency. And a visit and warning would be quite bad 'cuz then I wouldn't be able to bring out my quite airguns anymore.

Cheers,
John
