Title: (Update with pics ) been awhile
Post by: gillchaser on July 31, 2015, 05:22:19 PM
Hi guys , been awhile . I'm not sure how many folks from the old forum are around now , but my forum name at the old forum was my real name "Kirby" and I changed it to Gillchaser when I had to sign back .
Anyways , I wandered from airguns to rimfire but kept a few airguns , two AA PCP's , a 400C and a 410C , I got from Gene in a Trade .
But mostly I kept my three Crosman 1377's , a Daisy 717 , and a knockoff  Beeman pistol , a B17 IIRC .
While on vacation visit my daughter and granddaughter, I was searching around and found  what I think is a deal on a Crosman 1701P  Silhouette PCP pistol at just over $250 shipped . I'd been wanting one for sometime , but always thought they were priced too high .
I ordered one off Amazon , then the next day found them on Walmart on line for the same price . I'd read they had gone on sale before , but only for a short time , so while still available , I pushed the button on a second one . I know I'm crazy , but I plan on using one with open sights , for some 10 meter offhand stuff, and the other will be setup with a scope to shoot spoon spinners in the backyard or maybe some silhouette one day .
I'll keep you guys posted when I get them . Kirby

Howdy Kirby! Good to see I'm not the only one who wears a hat like yours. Good luck with your new guns.

Kirby,
When you changed your foum name how did you get all of your old posts to transfer?  By the way, good luck with the Crosman 1701P  Silhouette PCP.  Last Thursday I ordered one myself.

1701p...luv 'um!

Had one for a short while and really like the factory power (50@470-490-470fps w/8.4gr) for plinking/small-pesting out to ~30 yards. Local HOSPs are getting wary now. Watched another, listed as 'LN shot only 50 pellets' on the Yellow Classifieds, for a coupla days and when the seller reduced it to $200 shipped ... couldn't resist anymore. It actually looks new and gets 10 more shots per fill at nearly the same power as my first one does! Need to tweak one for 10.5gr.

Thanks, I've been wearing this style for a few years now , especially when I fish out of my Jon boat . Gone to wearing long sleeve shirts and fishing pants instead of shorts .

Not sure how my previous posts got moved . I guess Gene did it for me . I remember talking to him about having to sign back up after the change .
The sale on the 1701P's is a good one . Quite a savings . Lot of folks , I've read , like to mod them for more power . I'll be happy,  if after adjustments , they shoot 500-550fps . Even if they only shoot 450-500fps , they'll do what I want them for , target shooting and an occasional backyard Safari , shooting carpenter bees and wasps . Should be perfect for taking out those thieving chipmunks around the house , that have been eating my strawberries and tomatoes . Kirby

Any you guys use a pump with your pistols ? I've got two scuba tanks , both with about 2800psi left in them , but to get them filled , they would probably need to be hydro tested . Kirby

I use a semi-functioning brand new Hill Mk4 pump. If it weren't for the extra 'wasted' strokes it would be pretty easy to refill these pistols. I'll sometimes get them up to ~2800 with what's left in my SCUBA tank that also is due for hydro then top them off with the Hill.

The factory power setting is really enough for small pests, I've made many headshot kills on small stuff out to 30 and sometimes 40 yards with my 1701p. Probably wouldn't try a chipper that far though. Maybe 15 or so.

Thanks for the reply .
I once took out a squirrel that was about 50' update in a pine tree with a single pellet to the head with a stock 1377 pumped 8 pumps IIRC , with open sights . I was shocked when he fell to the ground and didn't even kick . Never knew what hit him .
I was out in the backyard shooting offhand and the son of a gun ran up  , grab a mouthful of my target bag fiber and took off with it with me shooting . He deserved a pellet to the head . Kirby

I was on here several years ago but forgot what my forum ID was so when I re-upped had to choose another. Bound to have some old posts ... if I could only remember.

Got to pick up my other 1701P today . After robbing a 1377 for its grips and sights , I got to shoot both of them . Kirby
