Hi All,
There is a 80cf tank selling for $147.00 with $20.00 shipping fee on Amazon. I am thinking of using this as an air source for my Hatsan AT44 pcp rifle together with my G4 pump which will become my backup device. Just want some advise from airgunners with a similar setup.
Here are some specs on the tank
Air Capacity = 80 CF
Working Pressure = 3000 psi (207 bar)
Thanks,
Vince

if you fill your gun to 3000 psi, you will only get 1 full fill from that tank. to get more you will have to fill less than 3000 or get a 4500 psi tank.

here is a calc you can use to see

Another good fill calculator : http://www.calc.sikes.us/2/index.php (http://www.calc.sikes.us/2/index.php)

I'd love to pick up a Marauder .25 synthetic from Cabellas that's on sale for $400 right now and was hoping that tank and this fill station would do the job. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0179LFCLO/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=DRQQN9EWL9F9&coliid=I2A899TJDWLD1J This older post just rained on my parade. :( That combo is about all the $$$ I could part with for an air source and that's stretching it. What if you only filled to 2500-2600 psi? A couple fills and you'd be done? Any other options that could be used for anywhere near a couple hundred bucks. Hand pumping is NOT an option for the Marauder for ME. Hand pumping my Disco is acceptable although not the greatest.
Anybody??? ??? Thanks guys.

Install and SSG and detune to 30fpe at 2600 fill pressure. That would greatly increase shot count and fills from a scuba tank.

If I did that how many fills would you guesstimate I'd get with that 80 cf tank? ???
Thanks!

Have an 80cf SCUBA tank that the tank calculator says will get 36, 1800 to 2500psi refills from 3000psi on my .22 MRod G1, getting 40-26fpe shots per fill with WAR SSG and 48 refills with a top off of 3200psi.

Check you local craigslist also. You can probably find a good deal on a tank, (maybe good enough deal to swing two tanks for the amazon priced one).
Here is a link for a search on "scuba tank"

Thanks Terry, that sounds reasonable. I'll go to WAR's site and check out SSGs, something I'm ignorant about.

Thanks Mike, will do. Of course I'm in mid-Michigan probably won't find as many as in Tampa, Florida. I might call the dive shop that's only a 1/2 hour away to see if they might have something used that'd work.

Thanks for sharing the tank off amazon. I just ordered one, I like the combo valve. It should compliment my guppy and regulator setup nicely.

Geeze my mistake.....when I responded to your post I looked at the OPs location for the CL search. DUH (http://upsidedownmoon.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/dunce.gif)

I have a 22 mrod and fill it from 80 cu ft scuba tank, just have it tuned for 2600 psi fill. I get plenty of fills out of my tank before it needs filled again. Dive shop fills it to legal max of 3300 psi for me. You might look at a used steel tank instead of aluminum, fills to 3500 with maybe a little extra to max.

Thanks for the post Tom, appreciate it! "plenty of fills"--5 or 6, 10 or 12, or ??? Just a good guesstimate please.

Just a word of caution on the aluminum Amazon scuba tank, I bought one and during the visual inspection at my local dive shop it was found to have a threading defect. At the same point on the threads, all the way down there was a bad spot on the threads.
They certified it to fill, but said it might not get a proper full life due to the defect.

I bought two 80 cf 3k tanks plus a 3k buddy bottle off craigslist for $180 then traded the 80cf tanks for two 80 cf 3.5k tanks with "The Dive Shop" . Last time I was in the store he had another used 3.5k tank for sale. The owner seems to be a good guy with reasonable fill rates. Heck the last time he didn't even charge me to top of my tanks from 2.8k.

THANKS for the post Matt, really appreciate it! That's who I called a couple weeks ago to see if I could get a tank filled there & the cost ($6). I haven't done anything yet so tomorrow I need to go to my credit union on Corunna Rd and will go there and see if they might have a used 3.5K tank for sale. I also wonder what a new one would cost. I didn't expect someone locally to post back, thanks again!

No problem. Hope he still has a used 3.5k for you. If not you would at least save shipping costs, but I would keep an eye on craigslist. Surprisingly they come up quite often around Flint area.

Went to the Dive Shop and unfortunately he didn't have anything used. Instead of buying the tank from Amazon I went ahead & bought a 3K tank from Kevin there. Yeah, it cost me about $40 more but he filled it of course and said the next 2 fills would be free. Fair enough, I'd rather spend my $$$ locally if I can. I ordered a fill station & hose off Amazon. I know I'll be able to fill my Disco no problem, I'm just hoping this'll work ok with a Marauder for now anyway if I top it off to 2500/2600 psi.
I don't see what PCP you have. Is it a Marauder?

Sumatra 2500 .25 cal
That tank will work good your Disco. Not sure how fills you will get on your Marauder.

I ordered the Marauder last night so I'll find out how many fills I can squeeze out of the tank by lowering the velocity and fill point. I'll probably end up getting a SSG for it.
Ed
BTW, It only cost me $24 more getting the tank locally, not $40 like I said.

Sorry for the late reply, to much stuff going on. If Island Hoppers gives me a good 3300 psi fill I will get at least 15 or more full fills to 2600. Had my tank filled by them before the fun shoot in Kentucky last month, was able to shoot all day Thursday with no problem, and shot both my rifles. They only charge me $5 for top offs. Since I use the tank for both my Marauder and Disco I don't pay to much attention to how often it needs filled, has been plenty for me on both. Only reason I'm wanting to upgrade at some point to a carbon fiber tank is just because of the weight and my bad back, not because I have been disappointed with the number of fills I get. Hope this helps, and it beats the snot out of pumping. Good luck with your new tank. Tom
