Title: Ordered R1 Carbine, received long barrel R1 instead...
Post by: roadfix on July 27, 2015, 05:55:09 PM
Upon opening the somewhat beat up and unsealed Beeman R1 .22 Carbine box this morning I immediately noticed that this was not a carbine rifle inside.   The R1 sitting inside was almost as long as the 50" long box!   The end of the box had a half-torn R1 Carbine label on it.   The missing bottom torn half of the label perhaps contained the serial number??   I don't know...   The Beeman box looked like it had gone through a previous return process as there were old label and tape marks on the box.    It just did not look right.   Oh, and the scope rings were missing as well.
It seemed pretty obvious to me that someone somewhere did a switch-a-roo on the rifle so I immediately called the vendor this morning to rectify this situation.   They were pretty cool about it and issued me a RMA # and a Fedex label.   The only problem was that they were now out of the carbine in .22 and told me it could be a while before they got any in stock.   So, I asked the helpful customer service rep if I could get the R1 Carbine in .20 instead as an even exchange.    The .20 is slightly more expensive but they ok'd an even exchange.   So I guess I'm somewhat a happy camper now.....   Hopefully they'll send me the right rifle this time.... ;D

The R1 carbine in .20 or .22 has been on my long range wish list for some time.  But it will be some time before I can scratch together that kind of coin.  I hope you have good luck with yours.  Please let us know how it turns out.

Assuming you're not describing shipping-damage, it's a SHAME they would let it out the door like that. The box condition would certainly indicate that something may be amiss with the contents!

Nice to see they didn't hit you with the 15% re-stocking fee, either, since it was obviously a perfectly satisfactory gun inside.  ::)

Yes, thanks guys!
There was no shipping damage.   The content of the Beeman rifle box contained a beautiful, long barreled R1, not the carbine I had ordered.....although the box was labeled as R1 Carbine.    So this was obviously vendor error and have no idea how something like this slipped through.  For all I know it could have been any other rifle in there if they didn't bother to check the content.    Now, I've gotta wait a couple more weeks for the return to process and receive my new rifle.   :(

Sorry to hear that, George.
Good thing you have patience because I know I don't ;D
I'm one of those who checks tracking several times a day until the shipment arrives.

I don't think I am meant to own a R1.   Wrong R1 on the initial shipment 2 weeks ago, then this...
I just received my replacement R1 this morning and found a large 4" horizontal crack in the stock at the grip.   Did not look like shipping damage as the boxes were in perfect shape, but who knows....
I called the vendor again for a RMA and a return shipping label.
They're out of stock on a replacement so I told them to just hold my money for the time being while I decide what to do...  Now I'm beginning to run out of patience... :(

Sorry to hear about the issues your having. That stinks that the first one was the wrong rifle and the second one was damaged and now out of stock.
You would figure the vendor would have inspected your order to make sure there were no issues with the replacement. I hope they do the right thing for you and send you some pellets or something as a good will gesture when they get the rifles in.
Best of luck Sir.

Dave

Might try a HW97K, slightly more accurate than my R1. :) German & UK rifles are my favorite.

Thanks guys!  I will go another round with them after they process my return.

Before I decided to go with the R1 my other favorite choice was a HW97k.   At this point I may just do that as they have plenty of HW97's in stock....

I bet if you take an eyeball down either side of that rifle, you'll find that barrel bowed upward, to! Sounds like a classic let-go from whatever rube newb had it before you, then returned it. Bet they barely eyeballed the rifle before putting back into stock!

What a drag, man!

Indeed many of those cracked stocks from trigger guard / grip area are indeed from having barrel get away from you upon cocking action.

Sounds like BOTH rifles were bottom of the pile all left on the shelf inventory ... Shame shame !!

Upon closer inspection there is a hairline crack running in the same direction, mirrored, on the other side of the stock as well, both cracks emanating from the trigger guard towards the butt.   Seems like the butt of the stock took a hard hit, somehow....but no box damage.

This rifle did not look like a return and looked like it's never been out of the plastic sleeve, neatly packed as if packed at the factory and never been opened.  Unlike my initial delivery this beeman box was in prestine condition.

Yes, as mentioned by pneuby and Motorhead, I can see how a crack like this on both sides of the stock can develop from the barrel getting away and slapping back as indicated by direction of the cracks.
I'll take a pic of the crack later on at home.   Fedex delivered this rifle at my place of work this morning and I immediately called the vendor on this.

Here's the pic of the crack.   There's another hairline crack (difficult to see and photograph) exactly on the other side as well.

How does this happen?  ... By pulling the trigger while the barrel is in fully open position?
Almost like throwing the transmission in reverse when you're going 50mph....   I always wondered it you can really do that.  LOL...

At least they're pretty good about taking it back (again), no questions asked about how or why.   Chances are, if it were another vendor I would mostly likely had to pay for return shipping and insurance.  :)

Mighta been 'triggered' off after cocking or the barrel grip slipped during the cocking stroke or maybe they thought it was engaged at the bottom of the stroke and it wasn't.

Barrel break actions have No Bear trap or Mid cocking stroke safety catches.  Until barrel is taken ALL THE WAY TO FULL BATTERY any loss of tension or worst case HOLD on barrel will Flip the barrel under full spring energy back to the closed position !!
With a Rifle Butt stock having much mass, as barrel violently snaps closed the receiver end of action tries to rip itself free of the stock. Being action is anchored at trigger guard, all this energy basically breaks the stock as shown in your picture.

Seen it and done it too   :P
