I have an odd scope question regarding diopter adjustment on my UTG 4-16x True Hunter AO Scope. (My question may apply to all scopes, though.) The eye relief for this scope is listed at 3.5”. If the reticle is sharp with only 1” of eye relief (this is without any diopter adjustment), is there any reason/benefit to adjust the diopter adjustment and get the 3.5” of eye relief?
My preference is to have the scope as far back as possible, solely for weight distribution. But if the scope is meant to be adjusted so that there is a full 3.5” of eye relief (maybe to provide the sharpest sight picture???), then I will gladly make the adjustment. I just want to know if there is a reason.
Thanks!

IMHO The eye relief will change with magnifacation change.

On this scope, the eye relief stays constant regardless of the magnification. When I adjust [loosen] the diopter adjustment knob, the eye relief increases.

Eye relief keeps recoil from driving the scope into your eyebrow.

What sort of airgun recoils that hard? I think I need one!

If I was using a springer, I would DEFINITLEY want 3.5" of eye relief. Given that I'm using a PCP, does it really matter (with accuracy, consistency, clarity, sight picture etc.???) if I only use 1" of eye relief?
