My new to me, but already beloved B50 has developed a leak from the fill nipple. Probably because I have been using the rifle without getting a cover for it... In hindsight I should have taken a cap from one of the other guns!
So I'm trying to remove it for a good cleaning. Any tips before I dig in tonight?

Hey Vigilandy,
Behind the fill nipple or through it?
- If leaking from behind, there is a plastic crush washer that is replaced underneath, by unscrewing the nipple using an open-end or crescent wrench. Make sure to drain any remaining pressure before unscrewing too far ;). If you don't have a replacement, pull out the old one and try to reposition before tightening.
- If leaking through the nipple, buy a new one.
Hope that helps,
Kirk

Thanks Kirk. It's leaking through the nipple. You don't think I can just clean it up?
Also how do you remove the nipple from the end cap? The whole thing spins. Use a pipe wrench? :D
UPDATE: Took off the tube cap / fill nipple. Couldn't figure out how to separate them though. Then I had a brilliant idea... Hooked it up to my SCUBA tank and blasted the heck out of it. Hoped to blast out any contamination... Well after putting it back together-- no more leak! At least I can't hear it leaking anymore. We'll see if it's still holding air after tonight.

Andy, hopefully that fix holds for you but you should know the O-ring on the check valve is prone to extruding and shredding. It will tend to leak intermittently before it fails altogether. Use a 90 durometer if you have to go in and replace it. I can put you a few into an envelope, just let me know.

Hey Andy,
Sorry about the bad info. on replacing the nipple, just remembered, I did replace that o-ring once :P

Old age getting the better of you? ;) Seriously though, it was helpful. I really couldn't see how to remove the nipple from the end cap so it made me think about other options.... such as blasting it with air from the SCUBA. Seems to be holding. 8)
But I'll still be contacting Jason for a spare. Now I have his attention, I've got some QB questions for him too. ::)

Yeah Andy,
I'm getting Old -> aren't we all ;D
Tried to help, forgetting my limitations :o Jason remembers all this stuff...................... 8)

I'm pretty sure Jason has transcended mere mortality.

I have replaced my o-ring with a 70 duro and it has lasted a long time. You should take this opportunity to install some protection for the filter screen thats in that location, I didn't and now I no longer have a filter and I use a hand pump. I believe some have placed a small o-ring in front of the filter and others have placed a washer in front. I'm sure others will chime in with some good ideas.
