I was thinking, sometimes not a good thing, about hammer bounce when using a stock hammer when regulating and tuning an air gun. I am setting up a disco with a bottle and regulator. Made a MDS nylon hammer but with the disco small spring hole, it limits the range of spring available. I put a very light spring in the valve. If this doesn't work, I have lightened my stock hammer as much as possible on the mill. I was thinking of using an o-ring like a BStanly tune to cushion the hammer when it gets to the forward stroke. Would this help or make hammer bounce worse. Thanks, Don

Very light springs in the valve can make hammer bounce worse, the only time I experienced machine-gun hammer bounce that emptied the reservoir was with a light valve spring, putting the stock one back in cured it.... Light hammers can reduce hammer bounce.... If the hammer hits the O-ring you will reduce the hammer strike, reducing the dwell, which could be good or bad, depending on if you wish to detune.... however it is likely to reduce hammer bounce as well....

Thanks Bob, I will go with the MDS hammer and light spring on my disco build. If I can't get the FPS around 880fps with 10.3 pellets, I'll put the valve spring back in and go with my skeletonized OEM hammer.

I would try a stiff spring with negative preload. That usually reduces the bounce to one extra opening.
