Title: Maurader hammer increased weight/spring guide
Post by: shorty on July 03, 2015, 10:06:39 AM
I know most people run a stock to lower weight hammer for their marauders and the few that make them heavier are pushing for the higher energy.

I found a neat little way to increase the hammer weight by 10 to 15 grams (depending on the material used). Since I like drop in parts and parts that can be added to the existing stock parts with out too much or no modification (and can be brought back to stock) I made this small part that fits into the stock marauder hammer.

The spring guide/hammer weight goes on the inside of the hammer and acts like a top hat and spring guide as one. Not too sure how it would work for stock springs at 2.25"-2.5" long because I use my dual wire spring at 2".

With the spring guide top hat I can now only get 5.5 turns on the hammer spring due to the new fit. You'll see in the picture. The drawing and part in the picture was the first prototype and since then I needed more weight. I made a new part without the .25" through hole and opened the spring guide part to fill with lead instead of the through hole. I am not using the HT no more. I am using Rdsail/pakprotector set screw instead to get more travel.

I don't have any before or after strings and I did both designs at the same time. The only thing I have is that I was throwing the jsb 81.3 at a max of 655 fps and with the parts in the gun could get 702 fps with the 81.3. That's hammer weight and extra travel.

I am writing here because I think the guys with the .22 and .25 may gain something from it. And for those that added lead to the sides of the hammer, this may be a way to get their hammers over the 120 gram mark.
