Title: how do you define a good day ?
Post by: Gertrude on June 29, 2015, 03:30:23 AM
Well for me,
it's spending it with great friends, doing what we all enjoy...
...(Oh Yeah,... and playing with our really cool toys !  ;))
We had some AWESOME toys to play with too.
modified guns, custom guns, tuned guns, and some works in progress that are looking very promising.

I didn't get my new camera yet,
so I only have a few still pics, taken from my old, beat-up, been dropped to many times Casio, (that only works when it wants to)... (and today it only "wanted to", about half of the time)

I only got a few pics at "Base Camp", and didn't take my camera with me while walking the permission on the "critter shoots", so hopefully some of the other guys got some pics of the critters we took out today.

Our new permission is a small cattle farm that has been over-run with GS's, Cottontails,   and all the typical feathered pests too.
The land owned loves us coming to take care of it for him, and we very much enjoy doing it for him.
Today was a bit special, because my brother was able to come join us, so we decided to mix in some tuning, target shooting, zeroing,  Chrony-ing, along with the pesting.
Today's group totals were between 35-40 squirrels, 3 or 4(?) Rabbits, a few piegeons and doves, (and my 48 yd headshot on a lizard).
My best shots of the day were 2 GS Juvies at 106 yds, and a head/neck shot on a dove at 79 yds.
(sorry, no pics of that) but I'm waiting on a new to me camera to be getting here in the next few weeks)

HMmmm,.... seems like I'm forgetting something,....
 OH YEAH ! ! I remember,...
And we decided to do it up right with a BBQ to round it all out !

BTW, I HIGHLY Recommend to ANYONE who ever gets the chance to enjoy some of Drig's Seasoned and Smoked Tri-tip, or his Sarachi Smoked Chicken, you better not pass it up !
MAN !, That was some GOOD Eats !
Thanks Dale for playing the "Camp Cook" today, the meats were Absolutely Fabulous !
(and to think I was just planning on doing a few Bratwurst's on the grill) silly me !

Today we had Drig - Dale,   Jeff Headley - Jeff,    Crosman999 - Dana,   Myself - me,    And my brother - Brian.

Anyway, as they say, pictures a worth a thousand words, so here's a few from our day today...

"Hey, did you guys see that 27 lb rabbit, and 3 foot long GS I shot at 376 yds with my Daisy Red Ryder? ? ? " hahaha !

Have you ever heard of a home-built Ratcatcher,.... on Steroids ?
 or,
How about a Crosman 2560 PCP Carbine Conversion ?

This is one of Jeff's little tinkering jobs, (and mine is following suit now too).
It started off as a 2240 pistol. Next it got a maxed out valve treatment, steel breech, a B&A .25 barrel with a bit of lathe work for a good fit, and a 2260 gas tube fitted with Jeff's custom fill fitting with pressure gauge, and ending with one of Jeffs beautiful LDC's...
... a NICE little carbine that hits HARD and is dang near Silent ! VERY NICE WORK !

Dana and Dale planning their Strategy for a Frontal assault on the local GS population.

...and we close out the day with an Incredible Sunset. It just doesn't get much better than this !

Ron, that looks like a blast!  I'm glad you were able to get out with the guys, I know those opportunities are far and few between.

Nice shooting on your part as well. ;D

Thanks guys,
Sorry I didnt get any pics of the quarry, but my old beat-up Point/n/Shoot seems to only capture and store about half of the pics I try to take.
I had some decent pics that somehow didn't get stored. MAN! I need to get a new camera BAaad !
I talked to Jeff this morning, and he said he has one pic of a cottontail he got, so when he sends it to me, I'll add it in here.

I did go back and edit some captions onto the pics in the original post, so you know who's who, and what's what.  :D

I think Dana and Dale have some pics to add as well.

Enjoy  ;)  :D  ;D

Yeah me and a few others were not able to make it, just think we were still missing about 7 ppl from our group, my, my has our group grown ;) I think that we are about 15 strong...... Next time guys, and I know that there will be a next time..15 or so of us :o the GS hunt that I am planning has 15 in it already wow... I think that the low count on this venture would be 15 teams which adds up to 30ppl, going to need a big place.

Wow!!!!

Looks like everyone had a great time.  I really hate that I had to miss this one, and just think, its right in my backyard!!!  I will definitely not miss the next.  Cheers to a great day of shooting and being with like minded friends.

By the way Dale, you will have to do a repeat on the meats!!!!   :D

Sorry but I have no pictures to speak of , my video camera did not have a memory card as I forgot

Wow!!! It was hot,Marie sat in the truck with A/C going and said it was 111drgrees. Was happy I was able to come out and I might say it was more than worth it just for the food. That Tri-tip was AMAZING! Thank you all, wish I could have spent more time but felt bad leaving little lady in the truck twiddling her little thumbs.lol That place does look very active when it's cooler out. I have some pics but can't post till later, was fun to hang out and shoot some very cool guns,Dales Daystate was my favorite of the day. 8)

We were double booked Friday and triple booked Saturday AND Sunday this weekend.  We just couldn't squeeze it in.  I knew I was gona miss a good time and would have liked to have met more members of the group (didn't even know Dana was going to make it!).

I'm glad everyone had fun but when I saw how hot it got at our place I was feeling a little better about NOT making it out there!  I knew it had to be a scorcher!  Good job  everyone.

Sounds like a real hoot, and with food. A little to far for me for a day trip. Hope to some day get a chance at some GS or PD's. Best I can hope for is the occasional ground hog.

Well, once again I miss out on some good times. But with me knowing how hot it was going to be and having to drive home late and be up 3:30 Monday to catch a helicopter to go back offshore would have just been to much for this old fart😀

Glad you all had a good time and hopefully I can make the  Next  "solcal" Airgun jamboree. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to seeing more pictures/vid
