Hi All,
Received my NEW 4350 psi CF tank couple weeks ago. I will include a pic of gun with new tank as didn't have camera today. It looks better on stock than EVANIX one IMO.......Last week also received the newest Dyotat Valve...He told me he used a LIGHTER return spring in the valve...Compared to what his other one does, I couldn't tell any difference and it performed very well.......
I shot last Friday testing at the 220 yd range with differing pressures and also tried again Bob's BBT 79 Gr BT that hadn't worked well for me before, but at around 3200 PSI. As pure lead the BBT cast at 81 gr and I lately have gone to 5% tin mix and they now cast at 79 gr.
First pic is at 220 yds with the BBT 79 gr.....Speed was 1065 fps average....With Mirage UP was hard to see the shots forming in lower right corner, Fine as i see the black ones fine but hard when they mark as white.... The fired 6 shots were 1.7" at 220 yds. Better than MOA.......3500 psi... I tried 4000 psi and was over 1100 fps but i fired 3-4 shots and was all over so stopped.....
Went to the Lyman 71 gr FN and they always on balance shoot the best for me...2nd Pic was 1.4" at 220 yds, 3400-3450 psi and try to keep around 1080 fps......Wind is blowing good so when i raise psi or change bullets, bothers me not if not in center, as I want to see how it groups.. I can always bring it to center with scope. I change bullets and weights and pressure so if it is ON THE TARGET i move scope little, just use different MIL DOT..... Some groups i get lucky as first time is centered well!! If shooting one bullet i center the scope, naturally ;D
Today i went at 100 yds to see if i could better the Hunter Supply 87 gr fn i bought when i was gathering bullets to TRY, before I started casting. I resized down to .2570 and they seemed some better.....3rd pic was a bunch at 3200 psi and 1000 fps.... Blacked out top and low holes are when i switch bullet weights or pressures i need a couple shots to see WHICH MIL DOT to aim with, then start shooting........
4th pic down is same bullet but at 3800 psi and up to 1080 fps....7th shot was up and away but the other 6 were decent? Still 100 yds.........I boosted to 4000 psi and first 2 were a hole and a half and i go WOW, then the next 2 were 3" to the right and UP so knew that wasn't working....
Then went to my best working in my gun more consistently, the Lyman 71 fn....5th pic is only 3 shot group but very good .293".... I am yelling at my 2 buddies and they come to look and i say NOT GOING TO MESS IT UP!!! My friend says no don't mess it up, start again on another target....My red aim stickers are 1" pasters.........after all the talking wind had switched again and blew the next 4 to the left of aim point... Didn't compensate, just wanted to see if group again. The first 3 were almost the same as the first 3 i was happy with, and 4th made group a tad larger this is the 6th pic.......I quit and watched my friend as his reloading and some tricks has his AR-15 doing pretty well and he was happy, and other friend shot his 6BR.......I let him shoot a couple 5 shot groups with AIR and before we ate lunch his were 1" so gun and bullets were working fine with gusty winds.
Going again to re-shoot the Highpower 300 yd target and at that distance. If it is better than my first attempt posted in another thread, i will go to the 600 yd line and try the HighPower 600 yd target center?..............Probably a week or so to reserve that range?
As with all my posts I test a LOT OF BULLETS, and differing pressures....What i post are the good ones that work for me. Rest I discard but informational for what isn't working......Thanks for looking.
CLICK PICS TO ENLARGE..........................Carl

Seeing an airgun pulling better than MOA at over 200 yards (200M) just blows me away.... It sure shows what is possible with the right equipment in the hands of a skilled shooter....

Bob
Thank You Bob........I think i will go Friday and shoot at the 180 yd rail as is easier to see where i hit with mirage than the 220 rail....I put enough targets on my 2'x4' frame i shoot till i want to leave before walking out to pick up.....Will again test with the BBT 79 gr and the Lyman 71 @ 5% tin.........Shoot more shots than what i did last Fri......SO far the BBT 79 hasn't proved to me that i can shoot smaller with it over the lyman 71 gr fn?
I may go next week to Coalinga Range and shoot at the steel silhouette pigs and rams at the 400 METER and 500 METERS???? Supposed to be 105+ for the next week +

Thank You Cedric, but nothing i haven't seen you via video, do as well or better!! :D Also trying to find the best combo for what works best, I have more bad stuff than good. But eliminating the bad....In fact most of the bullets i purchased before starting to cast my own, i am just going to re-melt them and cast for me, better slugs.......

Thanks, but there is still a little room for improvement yet........While those HUNTERS SUPPLY 87 gr fn don't look all that great., at 3800 psi it would be a not bad hunting round....But NOT trying to carry my 16# bench gun 8)

Great shooting
I wish I did not have to work so much. I can never get time to shoot..
I joined a range last year and only shot four times. I have a 257 but no time to shot.
At least I can see what this caliber can do
Thank for posting . you have to be a great shot just to be able to
Show what these air rifle's can do.
-
When I first looked at your targets, I could tell instantly which one was a .257420 Lyman. They are Great Bullets!
Now if we could just get a good mold company such as NOE or Accurate to make a 4 or 5 cavity mold in this pattern, I would be a happy camper!
"I could also see what looked like a typical Hunters Supply group as well). LOL

I agree Knife..........Nothing beats that Lyman day in and day out........Very good mold...I would like a 4 cavity for sure.....The next best thing for accuracy IMO would be that Lyman NOSE and a swage MOLD...........But would have to also have a custom cutter wheel for the drive bands to be cut after a cylinder/bullet was swaged........Swaging would be more accurate i believe, BUT would have to have lot of DRIVE BAND RING RELIEF so NOT BE all drag of a CYLINDER........???
When i shot during the early 90's in 50 BMG competition i contracted with CORBIN for their HYDRO PRESS and CUSTOM DIES of several OGIVES of design and was the first person to SWAGE SOLID COPPER ROD into .510" bullets, at the time CORBIN knew of no other as they made my experimental dies FIRST.......Had an automatic bar fed TURRET LATHE in garage with 12' bar feeder............ ;D Sold it all in late 90's...............I am 74 yrs old and thought about contacting CORBIN to hone custom design mold,, but not that important to me at this stage of life........I will settle for more cavities....and CAST................THanks for your input............AND the rest of the Hunter Supply will go in the POT................Carl

I know what you mean about getting older Carl! Grrrrr!!!
And I've been known to throw some fairly good dollars worth of bought bullets in the post as well. (In fact, got some here right now I'm fixing to toss) LOL!!!
The old saying of "If it looks good, there is a very good chance it is good. But if it looks bad, It IS!!!" Seems to hold very true for bullets in particular.
I've seen so many bullets cast from both Commercial sellers, as well as home hobbyist that look terrible, and ARE Terrible! Where is Pride and Quality these day's?
Well, I guess that is a topic for another day. LOL

I have a bullet or 2 that will probably out shine all that you have tried sofar. Ask knifemaker.

Not so sure about that RJ??? First bullets i EVER shot before i started casting were yours............I got your Lyman 257420 in both the FN and HP and shot them.......I make my own now in FN with 2 Lyman molds and are my most consistently good bullets..........I also bought your 88 gr Spitzer and didn't work well at all.....I waited until i got my rifle working well and about 2 weeks ago tried them again at 1010 fps and not good.......raised psi until i had them at average 1060 fps and at 220 yds was about 4" so i went to a bullet that worked better for me and stopped wasting air.........In fact rest of the bag of 100 i threw into the pot and melted them, as they didn't work for me and my rifle...........They are now made into a NOE 83 gr fb i will test tomorrow?? I really don't want very heavy bullets........I shot last tuesday at 545 yards on a Silhouette ranges furtherest steel.....I hit the RAM 19 out of 21 shots.......Had a cam there and didn't hit on hard enough to record!!!! I did take still pic of the RAM.........Anyway i haven't tried the heavies way out there as yet and going for 600 yds + next..........If you have something other than what i tried, i don't see it on your site except the 101 spitzer? Inform me please............Carl

What size is your bore diameter? That may be the problem. The 84grn spitzer has been a tack driver for the people I know who have shot them. It's actually one of my best selling bullets as is the 101grn. I also have a 103grn bullet that shoots really good.

This bore slugged on rifle i am shooting now is .2572.....I have sizing dies that size to .2575, ,2573, and .2570. I use the bottom 2 for this rifle.........Other one the bore slug is .2575............I think your SPITZER 88 gr was about .2575 but cant remember now but i did not resize them but shot what i had ordered although when i got them i did mic them last FEB.............I have found at the slug size or .0002 under works real well for me..........YMMV
I tried the NOE 83 gr fb this morning and works well for me , also their 63 gr fb was very nice too.............Will try in a week or so at some distance.......Thanks for your input RJ.....................Carl

Different Guns like Different Bullets. Doesn't matter a whit whether it is an AG or PB.
I tried RJ's 88 Spitzer and Oh Boy was it accurate! Most accurate bullet I have ever shot in my older 21" barrel. I would love to try them in the 27" barrel. I would buy a mold for this bullet TODAY!!! Buuuut--- It has been out of production for many years now.
Only problem I had with it is it's habit, (being a very sharp spitzer), of pokeing tiny holes in critters. LOL!!!
A shame the mold isn't readily available, and in HP!

Knife I am SO aware of the fickle nature of barrels.....60 yrs with powder and reloading, and only 5 months with air but principles are basically same.......I bought the Spitzers reading of those who loved them, and i believe they worked well for them..........I got them, and the Lyman ones from RJ....Lyman 72 and the HP shot best for me and the Spitzer didn't work for me in 2 BARRELS and 2 configurations of the RED GUN...........I now have 6 molds and 2 casting pots and I don't buy bullets anymore.........BUT ALWAYS open to new things.........I am glad they work for you and certainly wanted them to for me but that's life............Thanks for sharing your experiences................
Sorry i didn't get back sooner. Dyotat drove 3 1/2 hrs (220 mi) to come up and shoot with me and return home same day......We had a blast......Shot for 6 hrs............Had full value cross wind up to 12 mph . Had clays and targets at 220 yards and not a real good day for spectaculars........Last hour we moved to rocks at lasered 315 yds ..Between let offs and full gusts that dust kicked up 3 ft off small rock if not adjusted right..Quite challenging with air.................Carl

Grrrrr!!!! WIND!!!
It has been blowing like crazy here in Central Texas Lately. Gusting, changing directions, swirling. Enough to drive ya Crazy I tell ya!
Got the milling finished on my frame to be able to use Doug's hammer and fitted cocking Knob. Sure is a LOT better on my arthritis!
It went from pain for each shot to smooth and easy. Such a pleasure when things work well.
Doug's Creations work, and work well! 8)

Doug brought 3 of his guns up........He shot my RED one and I shot his .308 with side cocking lever and was sweet........I use a heavier than Doug's spring in my .257, and firing 150 shots in a couple of hrs, and my thumb joint is very sore for several days :o The moderator on that .308 was fantastic, all you could hear was the spring and hammer BOING when fired.....At 220 yds that thing really hit hard. Hit a rock and hear the report back of the CRACK when hitting that rock........My friend was shooting it at 315 yds and could hear it hit rock, being mostly deaf, i couldn't.............YES DOUG'S stuff is first rate..........CARL
