Title: New old gun
Post by: CBR400RR on June 22, 2015, 01:59:57 PM
I picked up a Benjamin 392 made in Racine WI in .22 and I'm trying to find out when it was made as I want to restore it. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is a pic of the serial number

The dating info is here at the top of the page in the Crosman-Benjamin Air Gun Gate.

The very early made in Racine 392P s/n are not cataloged so you have to scroll down to:

Model 392 - Pneumatic, .22 cal. pellet, single shot w/ under lever pump, (1st var.)    Rifle -  1991-1993.

These are very nice and there are a few shops that restore them. MAC1 is the first that comes to mind. Tim has custom services, also makes parts for these old pumpers and has a spot in the Airgun Retailer Gates on GTA.

More pictures would help to zero in on your particular 392's (P?) origin.

I couldn't find my SN anywhere and it has the metal trigger guard so I'm not sure how old it is but I plan on sending it to Mac 1 for the works.

As stated, the serial numbers of the earliest versions are NOT catalogued. Therefore you must use other methods to date them. Is it stamped as a 392P?

Yes it says 392P I was told it could be between 1985-1995 but not 100% for sure.

Nice! I like the old style stock.

Have 4 Benjamin 342s that are stamped Racine (they shoot great!) and the serial numbers are post '85 according to the Crosman, Benjamin Product Dates list. The 1st var. is listed with '68-'86 dates of manufacture and the 2nd var. dates are from '86-'91. The 1st var. 392 dates are listed as '91-'93. Second var. '93-'96 and 3rd var. '97 to present.

If that's the case,  cbr's 392 should be between  91 and 93 manufacture. The "P" was the first variant, and the "PA" was second variant. The PA's were made in new york.
