Title: HW97K Vortek kit.
Post by: BenjiHunter on June 22, 2015, 07:01:34 AM
I just ordered a Vortek kit for my HW97K.
I'm wondering, how many spacers do you use in your Vortek equipped guns and why?

After you install the Vortek kit, chrony the rifle over a number of long strings (to give it a chance to settle a little).  The kit does not always produce the energy that you desire.  You can add spacers to gain a little more power.

Just did a spankin new 97K .177 with a SHO kit.
After sizing seal ( Which was WAY too snug ) assembled with lubes using 3 of the 5 spacers.
Shooting FTT 8.64 gr pellets rifle was stable right about 870 fps making @ 14.5 ft lbs.

Snappy and solid shot cycle .....

Stefan, Scott did mine when she was brand new with a PG2 HO kit. Power was right at 15 fpe.....~ 800 fps with 10.3. The rifle LOVES the Air Arms 10.3......insane accurate.
That spring lasted ~ 50,000 rounds and was smooth as oiled glass from day 1!!!
Cocking stroke silent and silky.
Accuracy off the chart.
Had a new member come by the house. He never shot a springer.
He couldn't miss with the 97 and has since purchased one!
Enjoy and let us know how you like her!!

One question.
Is it hard to get the piston seal on to the piston?
If so, is there a trick to it?

Thank you.

I have good luck heating the seal in boiling water to soften it, then put it on a hard surface and push the piston on to it. I used to pry them on like a tire onto a rim, but got the push down idea from a thread here, and it works great.
